Winless San Marin High out-hit, out-hustled and outscored a Justin-Siena team that could do little right for 47 minutes, 52 seconds on Friday night.

ROCKLIN — Vintage High School’s slow start to the 2008 football season is not about the defense.

To say Friday night was bizarre as the St. Helena High football team dropped its second straight game — 35-7 to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on a rainy night — would be a severe understatement.

The Braves’ Eric Gutierrez scored a goal, assisted by Alberto Aguayo, and Eduardo Gutierrez added a goal assisted by Peter Olney in a draw with Branson. The JV squad topped Branson 3-2.

The Braves fell despite six goals from Teal Geyer, three goals from Sarah Risso and a single tally by Kelsey Minigan.

The Justin-Siena High School volleyball team swept Novato on Friday in straight games, 25-14, 25-17, 25-10.

The Braves (3-2) were 25-15, 25-21 winners on Friday as Gabby Salva recorded eight kills. Jen Cardey added nine assists while Mary Carbone contributed eight digs.

The Braves ran wild in Thursday’s victory, piling up a season-best 379 rushing yards in the victory.

The Braves’ service line played very well Friday as Justin (2-1) posted 16 aces.

One thing became certain about the Napa High football team on Friday night: The Indians are never a one-man show.

Last Saturday marked the opening day of the 2008-09 quail season in Napa County.
