NUCLEAR BLONDE

Singer/songwriter Shauna Marshall’s Nuclear Blonde shares songs and stories in a very special “behind the music” evening at Copia. She has appeared throughout the Bay Area dishing up searing blues with flavors of rock, country, funk and pop. Combining a raucous sense of humor, classic blues-inspired originals and a cool blend of dance favorites, Marshall makes each show an adventure. Her haunting vocals and intimate lyrics connect her immediately with her audience, relating the pain, joy, frustration and passion that life offers up. Also appearing with Shauna Marshall are Tom Bowers (bass), Stu Viets (saxophone), Steve Trovao (drums), Manabu Okuhara (guitar), Steve Della Maggiora (keyboard), Dennis Harper (guitar and vocals) and Phil Marshall (rhythm guitar/bass guitar).

Thursday, Oct. 23, 8 p.m. $20

THE BLUENOTECATS

If you are a fan of ’50s style rock ’n’ roll and rockabilly, then this is the show for you. The Bluenotecats (Dalton Jerry, Elan Tribo and Greg Gallup) perform the hits of Eddie Cochrane, Ritchie Valens, Jerry Lee Lewis, Stray Cats and some original music. This popular rockabilly trio is a must see experience for Rockabilly fans of all ages.

Napa Valley Music Assoc. and Copia Present MATTHEW GRASSO

Classical guitarist, composer, arranger, musical instrument innovator and improviser, Matthew Grasso performs on an extended 7-string guitar. This instrument has one octave more melodic range and greater harmonic/contrapuntal possibilities than the traditional 6-string guitar. Born of Chinese and Italian ancestry, Grasso began playing guitar at the age 12. He attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, participated in master classes conducted by Eliot Fisk, David Russell and the L.A. Guitar Quartet. He is on the faculty at Sacramento City College, The Experimental College of U.C. Davis, and teaches privately. The Copia program will include Air on a “G” String (Bach), Caprices 1 and 6 (Paganini), Mother Goose Suite (Ravel), selections from “West Side Story” (Bernstein), Adagio for Strings (Barber) and compositions by Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Bogdanoic and Matthew Grasso.

Thursday, Oct. 30, 8 p.m. $20

KITH & KIN Halloween Concert

Come to a spirited concert with Napa Valley’s traditional Irish band, Kith & Kin.

Got a headless horseman in your rearview mirror? A bony banshee keening at your door? A pooka perched on your pillow? Don’t get spooked! Give headless horsemen the heave, banish those banshees and petrify pookas with a spell of laughter and song. The seven-member group will perform material from its most recent CD, “Music for to Play,” as well as popular favorites and new All Hallows Eve airs and tales. Halloween, after all, is that other Irish holiday. Get Irish jiggy with Kith & Kin and the blues won’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Thrills, chills and laughs are on tap at this month’s Friday night flicks. The film schedule includes:

Friday, Oct. 3, 8 p.m.

“The Maltese Falcon” (1941)

Humphrey Bogart is Dashiell Hammett’s definitive private eye, Sam Spade, struggling to keep his hard-boiled cool as the double-crosses pile up around his ankles. With dialogue, delivered with whip-crack speed and sneering ferocity, Bogie faces off against Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet, and fends off the advances of Mary Astor. John Huston made his directorial debut here in 1941, and Bogart, who had mostly played bad guys, was a last-minute substitution for George Raft. This is the role that made Bogart a star and established his trend-setting antihero persona. 100 minutes Not Rated

Friday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m.

“The Thin Man” (1934)

Nick and Nora Charles cordially invite you to bring your own alibi to “The Thin Man,” the jaunty whodunit that made William Powell and Myrna Loy the champagne elite of sleuthing. Bantering in the boudoir, enjoying walks with beloved dog Asta or matching each other clue for clue, they combined screwball romance with mystery. The resulting triumph nabbed four Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture) and spawned five sequels. 93 minutes Not Rated

Friday, Oct. 17, 8 p.m.

“Charade” (1963)

Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn have chemistry to burn in this stylish suspense/comedy from Stanley Donen with an evocative Henry Mancini score. Grant may or may not be a flimflam man who aids the recently widowed Hepburn in her mission to recover a fortune hidden by her late husband. But three sinister crooks — who’ll stop at nothing — also covet the loot. 114 minutes Not Rated

Friday, Oct. 24, 8 p.m.

Thrillville’s Spaced-Out Halloween Spookylau

Blast off this Halloween season with a freaky far-out psychedelic trip featuring the ultimate B-movie masterpiece “Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster” (1965) plus the exotic out-of-this-world sounds of The Maikai Gents and special guests, “Cinema Insomnia” hosts Mr. Lobo and The Queen of Trash. Hosted by Will the Thrill and Monica, Tiki Goddess.

Special Halloween Night Screening for the whole family

Friday, Oct. 31, 8 p.m.

“Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein” (1948)

This Abbott and Costello horror-comedy flick features the bumbling buddies as railroad baggage clerks who receive a strange shipment — the last remains of Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster. Trouble is they’re still alive. When the deadly duo escape to a remote island, Abbott and Costello follow their trail and find not only the two ghouls, but also a mad scientist who wants to switch Costello’s brain with that of Frankenstein’s monster. 83 minutes Not Rated
