Motorists called police on Tuesday evening to report a reckless driver in the area of Imola Avenue, near South Napa Marketplace.
An officer spotted Valerie Lynn Wyant driving erratically, police said. When the officer tried to stop her car, she sped away, running a red light, police said.
Wyant continued to drive south on Highway 221, running the red light at Kaiser Road and reaching speeds close to 100 miles per hour.
Police said she ran another red light at highways 221 and 29, but stopped when she was blocked by traffic.
Wyant, 49, of Napa, was arrested on suspicion of evading police and DUI.
In a separate arrest early Wednesday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer noticed a car following another car too closely and weaving all over the road.
The officer attempted to stop the car, driven by Manuel Ortiz Martinez, but Martinez sped off northbound on Highway 221, CHP Officer Scott Lander said.
A pursuit ensued when Martinez smashed into a parked car on Sommer Street, near Shetler Avenue, Lander said.
Martinez bolted from the car. He didn’t get far on foot before he was tackled by the officer and taken into custody.
Martinez, 25, of Napa, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run, DUI and driving with a suspended license.
Correction: An earlier version of this article had Sommer Street misspelled

True, tourists generally don't have as much alcohol in their system as the two perps in the article, but in for a penny in for a pound.
The most humorous part of it is that DUI tourists are probably going to be upvalley near wineries, where (as all locals know) it is impossible to have a high-speed chase in all that traffic! "

There are stupid residents and stupid tourists. Sorry, but tourists don't deserve a free pass in this discussion. "

As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for many years, I have found that most tourists use drivers or have designated drivers. They'd rather enjoy their vacation than spend it in jail. But that's just my experience.
Either way, I don't believe that officers ignore the drunk driving tourists and/or let them go in favor of nabbing locals. "
