In the Poet's Spotlight
Wouldn’t you read an article titled, “Go Take a Wok in the Woods”? I would. This was one of George Stratton’s first nature-travel pieces, about cooking Chinese food while camping in the wilderness, and he believes it was the title which sold the piece. I have known George and his skillful, beautiful poems since he was a student in my poetry workshop in the early 1990s. Reading his poems is like reading extended haiku, as in this short poem, “The Secret of My Art”:

'Chicago Songs'
Napa Valley composer Kurt Erickson has completed a commissioned orchestral work for soprano Marnie Breckenridge and the Sacramento Philharmonic. "Chicago Songs" will be premiered Nov. 1 at the season opening concert of the 2008-09 season.
'A Cameo with Cliff Robertson'
Actor Cliff Robertson will be on hand for a screening of his Academy Award winning film, "Charley" at St. Helena's Cameo Cinema Sunday, Oct. 5. A wine and hors d'oeuvres reception at the Cameo will be followed by an interview moderated by film scholar before the film.
'Just the Two of Us'
The artistic duo of Kristi Rene and Edmund Grant are opening a new show at St. Supery titled "Just The Two Of Us." The show runs Oct. 1 through 31 with a reception Oct. 17, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
