The Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District was awarded a $1.65 million grant from the state Coastal Conservancy to assist with the acquisition of 673 acres along Moore Creek above Lake Hennessey.

“This wraps up the full funding package for the acquisition and improvement of the Moore Creek property for use as a public park,” said John Woodbury, general manager of the district.
The purchase is scheduled to close by Dec. 3.

Once acquired, it will take about six months to complete plans and get necessary permits, and about a year working with volunteers and contractors to get it ready for public use.
The funding will enable the district to provide miles of trails for hikers, equestrians and mountain bicyclists, opportunities for group and family camping, swimming and quiet appreciation of nature. The acquisition is also key to protecting and improving water quality in Moore Creek, a major source of water for Lake Hennessey, which supplies most of the city of Napa’s water needs./Register

" Swimming is not permitted in Lake Hennessey. Are you sure about that they will allow swimming here or is this some of kind of gotcha that is promised but will be pulled as soon as someone reads the rules? "
