American Canyon police answered a call of a suspicious vehicle very early Sunday morning and found Jose Luis Gonzalez sitting in the driver’s seat of his car parked in the 100 block of Los Altos Drive, Sgt. Craig Nickles said.

When the officer talked to him, Gonzalez smelled of alcohol, Nickles said, and he saw there was an open bottle of alcohol in the center console.
Gonzalez consented to let the officer search him and the car for weapons, Nickles said.

During the search, the officer found Gonzalez to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe. Inside the car police also found a package of cigarettes, containing a small packet of suspected methamphetamine, Nickles said.
Gonzalez, 42, of Napa, was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

" While looking for weapons inside a package of cigarettes, a bag of meth was found. OMG! I'm laughing so hard right now.

Consented to let the officer search for weapons, and the officer checked inside the cigarettes. Guess I'll have to find another place for my semi-auto pistol instead of inside my pack of Camels. Cigarettes were getting squished anyway.

The general public is so dumb, cops will tell you they want to search for elephants and then head right for the glove box. "

" MarshaMarsha, if you read the article it says when he was searched for weapons, the officer located a glass smoking pipe. Upon finding the pipe, the officer then has probable cause to search everything within the occupants reach to obtain additional evidence or incident to the arrest for the smoking device. Maybe you should brush up on your case law. Whos laughing now? Oh yeah me! "

" Lars, you might want to brush up on your sense of humor. Take a course on police psychology as well. Cops will tell you anything to get inside your car.

If you knew anything about "case law" you would know that as soon as the officer spotted the open container of alcohol inside the car Mr. Gonzalez was subject to search.

Go ahead, laugh, it's good for you! "
