Sarah Palin: The other side
Although I did not think the email about Palin I posted yesterday was entirely negative about her, I recieved several complaints from Republicans that the letter was b.s., as it is colloquially called. In fairness to them I point you to one of the supporters emails coming out of Alaska, which I have no doubt is basically true.
Obama's economic plan
Obama's plan turns largely around a key point, that over the last eight years and longer, the wages of all but the top 1 percent of Americans have either remained flat or shrunk. In very short, his plan for fixing that rests on two main things, taking money from the taxes of the top wage earners and giving it to those in the middle class and below. The other point is to reduce the deficit.
Palin's interview
Her interview with Charlie Gibson was partially run on Nightline. Her answers on foreign affairs seemed canned, stilted, and like she was out of her league. At one point she offered up that she could see Russia from Alaska. Huh? That is a qualification? She explained that it shows what a small world we live in. Ok. She really was reaching.
Palin and the Librarian
The story with Palin and the Library is hardly over. ABC did a report that showed that she belonged to a church that advocated removing books from circulation at the time, and she inquired about it to the librarian at a City Council meeting. When you are the Mayor of a town and you even bring something like that up, especially when you are well known to attend a church that advocates for it, it is intimidating. Unless you agree, of course, then it is a good idea.
Are Americans tired of 9/11 remembrances?
After seven years, are Americans tired of reliving the memories and images of Sept. 11 on each anniversary of the attacks?
Sunny Napa takes an economic hit
All things considered, the city of Napa is doing fine on the economic front.
St. John's honors remodel volunteers
Dear editor, We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Natalie Hoffman for her coverage of our recent facility upgrades at St. John the Baptist Catholic School (“Remodel project under way at 86-year-old campus,” Aug. 22). Ms. Hoffman’s work, along with the photography talents of Lianne Milton, accurately detailed our remodel, which emphasized environmental responsibility. With school now in full swing, more than 200 students and staff are enjoying the beauty and efficiency of our efforts.
Thanks to Dey for festival support
Dear editor, It was with great sadness that we read the news that Dey will be relocated from Napa (“Dey LP moving out of Napa,” Sept. 9). Friends of the Napa River very much regret this decision. Dey was, over many years, our staunchest supporter — financially generous and with a most enthusiastic volunteer engagement. Napa’s most beloved event, the River Festival with the Napa High School Marching Band, the Napa Valley Symphony and fireworks on Labor Day weekends, would not have been possible without Dey’s continuing support.
Give me something to chew on, please
One can feel the intensity level of the Presidential race jumping a couple of quantum leaps since Labor Day. There was another big leap over the weekend as McCain has surged ahead of Obama in a lot of polls on the strength of Palin.
