Napa Valley Adventure Tours is launching tours that combine hiking, biking, climbing or kayaking with food, wine, history, artistry and nature.

Founder Paul Hendricks created the venture to give guests the chance to see another side of Napa Valley beside the usual wine and food.
Napa Valley Adventure Tours has an office at Oxbow Public Marketplace open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For more information, call 259-1833 or go to www.napavalleyadventure tours.com.
Telethon for Meals on Wheels

Napa County’s Meals on Wheels program is short $25,000 due to budget cuts, rising gas prices and the state budget fiasco even after the money raised from Hands Across the Valley.
To help fill the gap, Dan Monez of Napa Valley TV came up with the idea for a telethon involving — for the first time — all local media.

There will be a live pledge telethon on  Oct. 22 and Oct. 27, 6-9 p.m. The program will feature entertainment and local celebrities.

The telethon will be cablecast locally, streamed over the Internet via www.napavalleytv.org, and simulcast on KVON/KVYN.

If you want to donate to the event, contact Monez at 227-8434 or mokey32a1@aol.com.

Perfect Purée hires Christy Taylor as COO

The Perfect Purée of Napa Valley has hired Christy Taylor as chief operating officer.

President and founder Tracy Hayward will now focus on new product development.

Taylor was most recently COO at Dey LP in Napa. She was also with CPC and Campbell Soup.

The company Web site is www.perfectpuree.com.

Laird expanding

Laird Vineyards, a custom-crush facility just north of Napa, is expanding as demand continues to increase for custom winemaking services.

He intends to add a 30,000-square-foot wing to the existing winery. That would allow for processing another 1,500 tons of grapes a year and take total annual production for the facility to 300,000 cases.

He hopes to have the addition ready to accept fruit by harvest 2009.

What the World Eats

The children’s edition Hungry Planet by local photographer Peter Menzel and writer Faith D’Aluisio, has just been released. It’s called What the World Eats.

It features profiles of 25 families in 21 countries, telling what they eat as well as how they live.

Napa Wine

The second edition of Charles Sullivan’s monumental book, “Napa Wine: A History from Mission Days to Present,” has been released.

It extends his 1994 “Napa Wine: A History,” more than a decade.

It was published in cooperation with the Napa Valley Wine Library.

The retail price is $45. It’s published by the Wine Appreciation Guild.
