Calistoga High’s football team looked pretty good on the opening drive of Friday’s game at Rio Vista, but it was all Rams after that.

The Wildcats’ Lucas Fernandez scored on a 24-yard run to cap a nine-play, 72-yard drive for an early 7-0 lead, but Rio Vista quickly took control in a 49-7 victory.

The Rams (2-0) pulled off some big plays for a 28-7 lead at the half.

Kevin Kistner threw a 59-yard scoring pass to Tyler Wilcox, followed by Marquise Williams’ 58-yard TD run. Wilcox put the hosts on the scoreboard again on a 61-yard jaunt, then Kistner completed a 3-yard pass to Williams for a three-score cushion at the break.

Leo Sanchez recorded a tackle for lost yardage in the first half for Calistoga (0-1), while Danny Traffanstedt blocked an extra point.

In the second half, Rio Vista tacked on scoring runs by Williams (20 yards), Tim Brown (3 yards) and Kevin Choate (2 yards).

Calistoga’s Josh Monroy and Jose Luis Alfaro each posted a pair of tackles for lost yardage in the second half.

The Wildcats will play at St. Helena next Friday in the Saints’ season opener.
