Napa Valley Baseball Club takes Labor Day tourney title

Napa Valley Baseball Club’s 11-and-under team claimed the championship Monday in the USSSA Labor Day Classic tournament at Manteca’s Big League Dreams ballpark.

The U.S. Specialty Sports Association-sanctioned tournament had 10 Northern California teams in the 11-and-under bracket.

The Napa Valley team went 3-0-1 in pool play, outscoring the four opponents by a combined score of 30-14, to earn the No. 1 seed going into championship round.

Napa Valley beat the Elk Grove Dirtbags 6-4 in its semifinal, then took the title by routing the North Bay Dynamites 11-6. 

Dahlen Benere, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Jacob Rasmusen, Michael Jankiewicz, Jared Horn and Aaron Shortridge all picked up pitching wins for Napa Valley.

The Napa Valley team also includes Cal Bard, Connor Blunt, Joe Canepa, Colton Forster, Brendan Peterson, Jacob Ray, Gabriel Reyes and Noah Vulk. The manager is Kyle Rasmusen and the coaches are Mike Jankewicz and Sammy Jolliffe. The junior coaches are Brad Forster and Troy Jolliffe.
