Enjoying the tastes, dirt in Calistoga

Dear editor,

I wanted to thank your community for sharing Calistoga Speedway with us for the most memorable Labor Day holiday in my 43 years. I traveled from Stanfield, Ariz., to be a pit crew member of the No. 2 USA Midget, driven by Jimmy Voitel.

I have never been to a dirt track that had the most wonderful wine tasting any tourist could ever enjoy. Raffine Chocolates’ Mona Keady had chocolates that gave this non-drinker a sense of how good your local wine is, as well as the dream of eating more of her delicious sweets! I cannot over-emphasize how good her chocolates were.

It was great to meet the sons of one of your local legends, Louie Vermeil. It was as if Dick Vermeil, former NFL head coach,  had won the Super Bowl again, seeing the size of his smile!

It is my sincere hope that we are able to do this event again. The fans were incredible, both in their enthusiasm of the racing and in the event as a whole. I also hope that we were good ambassadors of our sport that you will want all of us to do this again next year!
