Napa County sheriff’s deputies had a busy weekend hauling in DUI drivers.

From 6 p.m., Friday, to 2 a.m., Monday, deputies arrested 39 people for driving under the influence, according to sheriff’s Lt. Doug Pace.
Pace said the roving patrols scanning for drunk drivers took place over the three-day weekend from American Canyon to the Lake County border.

“We had 17 deputies on duty each night of the roving patrols,” Pace said. “Not only did we get DUI drivers off the road, we made four arrests for minors in possession of alcohol and three drug arrests.”
Meanwhile, the CHP was also zeroing in on DUI drivers.

During the Labor Day weekend, CHP officers hauled off 19 drunk drivers in Napa County for a one-night stay at the county jail.
The CHP also conducted a DUI checkpoint where they stopped about 300 cars on Trancas Avenue near the Trail from 8 p.m., Friday to 2 a.m., Monday. During that time they arrested eight DUI drivers, one probation violation and one warrant arrest, CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.

Paulson said eight cars were impounded and towed for drivers not having valid driver’s licenses or vehicle registration violations.

" Good job, deputies, 39, that's a lot of cars off the road for DUI's. I respect the hard work and dedication. Sounds like the roving patrols are more active in getting DUI drivers than just the checkpoint (only 8 DUIs there). Will that bump up the statistics for this month, we'll see names in Register in about 6 months? "

" 8 dui's of 300 cars stopped. A much higher % than the checkpoint on Lincoln a couple of weeks ago. As I recall, that spot was suggested by someone on the blog...a local perhaps.(ok, it was me). I wonder how many of the dui's were tourist.
It's good to see results from these checkpoints. "

" Crusherfan, nice recommendation. It's great to know law enforcement checks these blogs out. So now that I know they're reading....Great Job! Thanks for getting these dangerous drivers off of the road. "

" P.S. to Law Enforcement, you can still get a good haul if you patrol Petrified Forest Road to the county line on Sundays, starting at about 5 or 6 p.m. and extending until dark. Sun and liquor drenched weekend warriors from three counties pass through this area on their way home for the weekend. It's a frightening spot, and time to drive there. "

" BRAVO, Napa County Sheriff's Department!!! Keep up the good work--you may have already saved someone's life!

And why is it that the drunk driver usually survives with minor injuries, but his/her victims are often DOA...?? "
