A bride had her special day spoiled when a thief broke into her car Upvalley and allegedly stole heirloom jewelry and a designer purse, according to sheriff’s department.

The woman, who is from out of state, parked her car at a winery on Highway 29, north of Oakville and placed her Kate Spade purse in the trunk of her vehicle, sheriff’s Capt. John Robertson said.
She toured the winery and when she returned to her car about 45 minutes later, she discovered her car window had been smashed and the thieves had gained access to the trunk of her vehicle, Robertson said.

Not only did the culprits take her designer purse worth about $600, they also took her heirloom jewelry — a double-string of pink pearls and a diamond necklace — valued between $52,000 to $100,000, Robertson said.
She had the jewelry with her because she got married the night before in the Napa Valley, Robertson said.

Sheriff’s investigators have no suspects.
Meanwhile, one Napa resident won’t be cruising the roadways on his bicycle anytime soon.

On Sunday, police were notified by a resident living in the 4000 block of Big Ranch Road that his Eddy Merx road bicycle, worth about $8,500 was missing from his garage, Robertson said.

Detectives have no suspects. Robertson said the owner of the bicycle had allowed people the night before to use his property for a wedding.

Anyone with information about either burglary is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 253-4591.

" Sorry about your losses, but this sounds like an episode of some cheesy detective show on TV. Here's how it turns out:

Jewel thief wedding guest spots bling on bride, steals bike to follow her around after wedding, watches her lock jewelry in car, does a smash-and-grab, pedals off through the vineyards. "

" In my opinion, there is almost nothing worse than a darn THIEF!!! I sincerely hope that they catch these low lifes who stole from these poor victims. People have to work too hard to get any luxuries they want nowadays for these creeps to just come along and steal them. If you want something, work for it yourself, DON'T STEAL IT from others who do!!!!! "

" As I predicted earlier this year, crime will continue to go up due to our poor economy. As a community, we must look out for one another and report criminal activities to the police ASAP. "

" Hopefully the diamonds/pearls were insured. Was the property properly licensed to perform weddings? "

" As usual the reporting is unclear, but it sounds as though this was the only car in the parking lot to be burglarized. It does seem curious that it just happened to contain $100,000 worth of jewelry inside. "

" This article implies that these cases are somehow related.......are they? Was it the wedding guests that ripped off the bike....and the alleged jewelry? I don't know why someone would leave a $600.00 purse...and $100,000.00 worth of Jewels in their car....locked in the trunk or not.....it just doesn't seem too bright. Curious yes.....bright no. "

" so, someone just *happens* to pick the car with the major bling in the trunk?
smash and grab thieves rarely stick around long enough to check the trunks, they usually just grab whatever is visible in the front. This stinks of a planned robbery. If I were investigating this, I'd probably be visiting every person employed by the caterer, organizer and guests who were at the wedding where the bride was displaying this lovely sparkly.
As for the bike... omg.. 8500 for a "bicycle" ? ... again, I'd be visiting all the caterers / servers / etc.

Im curious if the same crew worked both weddings... "

" Sorry for the lost but, you snooze, you lose. Don't make yourself a victim. Expensive lesson to learn. Who in the right mind would leave that kind of stuff in the car. "

" It doesn't sound like this winery was also the site of the wedding. The wedding has nothing to do with the robbery except for the fact that she had the jewels with her because she was getting married.

Does the winery have valet parking? "
