Youth will be served for the Trinity Prep girls volleyball team, while experience paves the way for the Crusaders’ boys soccer team this fall.
First-year coach Jacinta Sheetz has seven freshmen on her 12-player volleyball squad, which opens its season Sept. 17 at home against Redwood Adventist of Trinity Prep.
Sal Alvarez has a soccer squad led by veterans and all-Northern Pacific Athletic League selections. The Crusaders kick off their campaign Sept. 8 when Summerfield Waldorf from Santa Rosa visits Napa.
Here’s a look at the two fall team sports at Trinity Prep:
Girls Volleyball
The Crusaders will be led by junior Mary Kate Bakh, one of the most athletic members of Trinity Prep’s sports family.
The junior should play a key role as a hitter.
Maureen Muth is a freshman Sheetz will count on as girls soccer returns to Trinity Prep for the first time since the 2005-2006 school year. Marissa Streett is another freshman who’ll be counted on heavily by the Crusaders.
The rest of the roster includes Anna Arend, Barbara Bakh, Mary Birdsall, Claudia Gutierrez, Claire Maxson, Rachel Nelson, Shannon Pace, Megan Quinn and Bailey Sciambra.
Boys Soccer
The Crusaders finished last year winless at 0-10, but have high hopes for this season with All-League seniors Daniel Cravalho, a midfielder, and Peter Kersting, a frontline defender.
The team will eventually have 13 players but begins with 11 on the roster.
Senior midfielder Ty Lopez will be an important contributor at midfield.
Dustin Johnson, Anthony Kersting, Dominic Lazzero, Nick Maxson, Alex Nelson, Kyle O’Brien, Brendan Quinn, Joseph Thornton and Sean Thornton round out the team that will open the Sac-Joaquin Section season.
Trinity Prep will play in the Northern Pacific Athletic League with North Hills Christian, Freedom Christian, Sierra Christian, Excelsior and New Life Christian.
