Dear editor, Dear Mayor Techel, esteemed city council members and city of Napa Public Works staff:

On behalf of the Redwood Middle School student body, faculty and parents, as well as the community members in the vicinity of Redwood Middle School, I want to express my gratitude for the installation of the new stoplight at Redwood Road and Carol Drive.
Three years ago I made a request to the city council for a stoplight to be installed for the safety of our students and the community when crossing the intersection of Redwood Road and Carol Drive. You listened to my request and then you acted upon my request by authorizing the financial resources to install the stoplight.

City of Napa Public Works did an outstanding job conducting a series of meetings with the property owners who would be affected by the installation. When the last meeting was held, there was not one property owner who left the meeting feeling upset. Rather, the property owners felt heard and accommodated by the city of Napa Public Works staff.
Again, I want to thank each of you for your role in making sure the stoplight was installed. It is a welcome addition and dramatically improves the safety of our students who use this intersection during the school year.

Michael Pearson, principal / Redwood Middle School

" I drove down Redwood Road the other day and saw that this light was installed. This was a long overdue project and I happy to see the signal at that intersection. I attended Redwood during the 1980's and crossing that intersection was a huge risk.

In addition, the light at Linda Vista and the 29-Redwood Road interchange that have come to fruition in recent years has made that entire area much safer.

Hopefully the next project in the works (which is probably a Caltrans project) will be for signals at the Imola offramps from 29. It never ceases to amaze me at how many close calls come from people who fail to yield or don't know understand the concept of right of way! "

" I would like to give a shout-out to the owners of the houses that had to have portions of their yards removed for this project. I truly hope that they are reimbursed "nicely" for their inconvenience.
The area is so much nicer and, hopefully, safer. "

" Great project, the City made a worthwhile safety improvement . I would also like to suggest that a plan be developed to add "lighted crosswalks" at strategic high volume areas of the City. These could be placed near schools, parks etc. that do not have traffic signals. i realize these are expensive but they are very effective. "

" I would like to ask Mr. Peterson what he thinks about the Napa County Office of Education waste of $498,000 on "Safe Routs to Schools" grant money in 2007 instead of using that money to help to pay for something positive like the Carol/Redwood stoplight. "

" As a parent of a Redwood Middle Schooler, I love the new stop light. It can get a little congested still, but nothing like before. "
