Windsor GC captures NorCal Team top spot

CommentWindsor Golf Club’s team of PGA Professional Jason Schmuhl and amateurs Kenneth Rhodes, Mike McCreary and Rene Purugganan posted an 18-under-par 126 to win the Northern California Section Team Championship on Monday at Chardonnay Golf Club.
The victors won the 24-team event by one stroke over runner-up D’Andrea Golf Club of Sparks, Nev. The title gave Windsor a berth in The 2008 PGA McGladrey National Team Championship, a 41-team event scheduled Oct. 20-22 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. The 164-player field will compete on three of Pinehurst’s premier layouts, Nos., 2, 4 and 8.

Merced Golf & Country Club and Ripon’s Spring Creek tied for third with 128s. Sierra Meadows Ranch of Oakhurst was fifth (132); Auburn’s Darkhorse of Auburn and The Resort at Red Hawk in Sparks, Nev., tied for seventh; and Oakdale Country Club and Roseville’s Diamond Oaks Golf Course tied for ninth.
