Democratic convention coverage, Register style
By TRACY KRUMPEN and HENRY MICHALSKI
Register Correspondents
NapaValleyRegister.com has correspondents at both the Democratic and Republican conventions this year. This week, Napan Tracy Krumpen, an Obama delegate, and Napa political junkies Henry and Lynn Michalski offer their dispatches from Denver, site of the Democratic National Convention.
Monday, Aug. 25, 3 p.m.
Tracy Krumpen: Events and speakers everywhere. Though we were tempted Sunday night with private parties at mansions outside Denver and a concert at Red Rocks with Dave Matthews and Sheryl Crow, we chose to attend the All-Delegate Celebration at the Colorado Convention Center ... and we were not disappointed one bit.
Monday, Aug. 25, 2 p.m.
Henry Michalski: Denver delivers. Mary Fierro from Fresno was elected as a Hillary delegate to the national convention, and is not budging.
Sunday, Aug. 24
Tracy Krumpen: All this and convention is a day away?. Are there things to do in Denver if you’re a delegate? The answer is yes. The convention doesn’t officially start until Monday, but my Sunday agenda filled up quickly. Here’s what we have on tap:
Saturday, Aug. 23Tracy Krumpen: Things to do in Denver when you're a Delegate. When I approached the Napa Valley Register about blogging from the Democratic National Convention, web guru Dan Ross suggested an introduction piece. So in the words of Ross Perot's VP running mate James Stockdale ... who am I and why am I here?
Check back often to get a behind-the-scenes look at what's taking place in Denver this week.
This is the quiet kickoff to more than two months of online coverage of the 2008 elections for local, state and national issues. Watch for extensive opportunities for you to chime in with your thoughts on all local races, on each state proposition, and the race for the White House.
The goal of the story comments section at NapaValleyRegister.com is to have an open, thought-provoking, civil community forum for all issues.

They failed. There was nothing more American than the way the Obamas spoke of their story. It made them more appealing to the white working class and the black working class. It defused the smears.
Tonight succeeded in the most important task. Michelle did it. She more than did it. She struck fear in the GOP tonight. Their lies about the Obamas will fail. As they should "

His deep religious faith and his background as someone who's come from nowhere, you might say, to a high position in the political world, all of that I think bodes well for America. ... I don't have any doubt that when we have a Democrat back in the White House this January, Barack Obama, he will make sure this never happens again."
However, on November 30,2006, during an Charlie Rose Show interview, the same failed politician said this about Obama: "..."I just don't think he's got yet the proven substance or experience to be the president."
SO, Jimmy (I lust in my heart) Carter, which one IS it? "

abouttime- the Campaign sent Michelle home to get her out of the public eye for a while. First, she says "This is the first time in my adult life that I am proud of my country", then how mean this country is. Now it's love baby. Talk about your Hollywood makeover.
Just to be clear, I have always loved my country! "

Hillary does not want Obama to win - it puts her out of the running until 2016 if that is the case - when Michigan and Florida's votes were not counted during the primaries, Hillary made sure her name stayed on the ballot (the remaining were "undecided") and even after Barrack the Vote won the required number of delegates she did not withdraw her name from the nomination but "suspended her campaign". When I say moderate economic regulation, I mean a sensible and balanced set of rules and regulations to keep corporations from doing what they're doing now - worshipping at the altar of profit *at the expense of humanity and environment*. If you can make an honest dollar selling a product or service, please do. Don't hide behind "externalities", "shareholder value" and "dividends" to release dangerous product, wreck the evironment, poison the people, and control the market. Conscientious capitalism enforced through a modicum of sensible legislation.
Power? What about the power to wiretap domestic lines, to spy on citizens without a warrant, to detain people indefinitely without counsel or charge, the power to declare war without so much as a by-your-leave?
You think what I'm asking for is anything other than a *reduction* of government power and a re-focusing on what government should be about - helping the people it supposedly serves get on with their lives and live decent and dignified lives without worrying about being taken advantage of by the Big Money and Big Guns? My entire vision of government is to ensure that "Might Makes Right" stays in the dark ages, not here and now. "
freeport56 wrote on Aug 29, 2008 10:04 PM:
BHO's speech was so so. He said nothing and offered less. Your criticism of corporations is a joke. what stocks do you own? would deny people their investments, their retirement or do you just want to feed off the government ?
I believe in keeping the environment clean and healthy, but not attacking people for it. Why don't you go to China or Russia and complain to the two largest polluters on the planet.
it is the same old Democrat plan, punish people for making money so you can p*ss it away on some stupid social program. $4 Trillion down the drain on the War on Poverty and the level of poor has not changed since 64'.
If you stop the heavy taxation, end death taxes, and lower taxes that will put people to work. Bigger governments do not. Your twisted vision is Big Brother providing for us and watching over us stinks. Keep them out of our pockets and off our backs. If you want a socialist life style so bad go to France and apply for welfare. "

The America you yearn for, entity, never existed (and hopefully never will). Read a little history and look at the people that came here and what they wanted. They came here to get AWAY from government. They came here because they wanted to use their abilities to provide for themselves and their families, not because they wanted to be "cared for" by someone else.
It's only compassion when it comes voluntarily. When the government takes from one to give to another it's called Socialism... "
Raven wrote on Aug 30, 2008 11:11 PM:

It is not the job of the government to control our lives as so many of the libs want them to do. Just as the free market place adjusts\corrects itself, the government does not. They are not social policy experts or our mothers.
Self- reliance built this country and now the left wants an NAU to control and direct their mindless activities. Thank you but, no thank you.l I can think and act on my own. That's what my parents emparted on me as part of lifes lessons. "

The intellegence community is monitoring incoming calls from terrorist supporting nations to see who they are calling.
Would behave as "Do-Nothing-Nancy" and not protect our country. You want so much from the government, but not their protection. I cannot not think of a right I have lost. I can still carry my guns to the range, talk dirty to my wife on the phone, drive to San Leandro to see my friends, and vbote. I have not lost a thing that I can see, feel, or hear.
