NapaValleyRegister.com has correspondents at both the Democratic and Republican conventions this year. This week, Napan Tracy Krumpen, an Obama delegate, and Napa political junkies Henry and Lynn Michalski offer their dispatches from Denver, site of the Democratic National Convention.

Monday, Aug. 25, 3 p.m.
Tracy Krumpen: Events and speakers everywhere. Though we were tempted Sunday night with private parties at mansions outside Denver and a concert at Red Rocks with Dave Matthews and Sheryl Crow, we chose to attend the All-Delegate Celebration at the Colorado Convention Center ... and we were not disappointed one bit.

Monday, Aug. 25, 2 p.m.
Henry Michalski: Denver delivers. Mary Fierro from Fresno was elected as a Hillary delegate to the national convention, and is not budging.

Sunday, Aug. 24
Tracy Krumpen: All this and convention is a day away?. Are there things to do in Denver if you’re a delegate? The answer is yes. The convention doesn’t officially start until Monday, but my Sunday agenda filled up quickly. Here’s what we have on tap:

Saturday, Aug. 23

Tracy Krumpen: Things to do in Denver when you're a Delegate. When I approached the Napa Valley Register about blogging from the Democratic National Convention, web guru Dan Ross suggested an introduction piece. So in the words of Ross Perot's VP running mate James Stockdale ... who am I and why am I here?

Check back often to get a behind-the-scenes look at what's taking place in Denver this week.

This is the quiet kickoff to more than two months of online coverage of the 2008 elections for local, state and national issues. Watch for extensive opportunities for you to chime in with your thoughts on all local races, on each state proposition, and the race for the White House.

" No one needs to be persuaded that the country is on the wrong track. We have endured one of the worst presidencies in American history, a stalling economy, and a war that was as deceptively packaged as it was poorly executed. The wrong track number is at 80 percent. What was necessary tonight was rebutting the only real weapon the Republicans have: dragging Obama into the mud, throwing every extremist attack they can at him, painting him as a commie, alien, anti-American freak. For good measure, they had tried to paint Michelle as an angry black radical.
They failed. There was nothing more American than the way the Obamas spoke of their story. It made them more appealing to the white working class and the black working class. It defused the smears.
Tonight succeeded in the most important task. Michelle did it. She more than did it. She struck fear in the GOP tonight. Their lies about the Obamas will fail. As they should "

His deep religious faith and his background as someone who's come from nowhere, you might say, to a high position in the political world, all of that I think bodes well for America. ... I don't have any doubt that when we have a Democrat back in the White House this January, Barack Obama, he will make sure this never happens again."

However, on November 30,2006, during an Charlie Rose Show interview, the same failed politician said this about Obama: "..."I just don't think he's got yet the proven substance or experience to be the president."

SO, Jimmy (I lust in my heart) Carter, which one IS it? "

Hillary does not want Obama to win - it puts her out of the running until 2016 if that is the case - when Michigan and Florida's votes were not counted during the primaries, Hillary made sure her name stayed on the ballot (the remaining were "undecided") and even after Barrack the Vote won the required number of delegates she did not withdraw her name from the nomination but "suspended her campaign". But - I'll choose Obama/Biden over Cheeky McWarmonger any day. It's the man who *sang a ditty* about bombing Iran to the press, for the love of all things. "War experience" means nothing to me except "wants to start another war". And I'd rather "tax and spend" than "don't tax and overspend". Obama has talked of moderation, peace, diplomacy, and understanding, not jingoistic knee-jerk reactionism and flag-waving.

I support social freedom, moderate economic regulation, a blanket foreign policy of non-aggression, social programs and welfare, greatly reduced standing military and greatly increased funding for research (both civilian and martial - high technology for defense and better living) and much enhanced public education.

Find me a candidate who can do THAT, will you? "

When I say moderate economic regulation, I mean a sensible and balanced set of rules and regulations to keep corporations from doing what they're doing now - worshipping at the altar of profit *at the expense of humanity and environment*. If you can make an honest dollar selling a product or service, please do. Don't hide behind "externalities", "shareholder value" and "dividends" to release dangerous product, wreck the evironment, poison the people, and control the market. Conscientious capitalism enforced through a modicum of sensible legislation.

Power? What about the power to wiretap domestic lines, to spy on citizens without a warrant, to detain people indefinitely without counsel or charge, the power to declare war without so much as a by-your-leave?

You think what I'm asking for is anything other than a *reduction* of government power and a re-focusing on what government should be about - helping the people it supposedly serves get on with their lives and live decent and dignified lives without worrying about being taken advantage of by the Big Money and Big Guns? It's called cooperation, and it's the very spirit of civilization - not gung-ho "i got mine, jack, go hang yourself for all i care" republicanism. Is the "conservative revolution" just about taking care of yourself and letting the world die around you, laying in your freeze-dried food, tossing nuclear bombs at people who don't believe in your book, and locking the shelter door when the neighbors come knocking, maybe offering to sell them a gas mask for the low-low price of whatever they can afford as the fallout comes a-rolling in?

The lost the will to report the news with neutrality. Today they telol me what they want me to hear. It is ashame foer all those who began their careers thinking they would make a difference, and only became propagandists. "

" Don't worry freeport, B.O. voted to re-authorize the foreign surveillance act. AND he even approved immunity for the telecom companies that were involved! B.O. has to pander to his Lefty cronies, but he knows when it comes to election day, they will vote for him regardless of the facts... "

" Freeport, there was no law on the books before 9/11 allowing the FBI to walk into a library demanding someone records and then tell the libararian it was against the law to even mention they had been there....

the laws on the books before the patriot act and the changes to FISA demanded at least some show of probable cause before the government could act against you....and I am glad you feel you have lost no rights, but how would you know...for all you know, your records may have been searched, your fone calls listened to, your internet access monitored and under the new rules the attorney general is promoting, your church may have been monitored by agents..the fact is you will never know.

so don't even attempt to say i am twisting the facts....the facts are there for anyone who wishes to see them...Try and blame it all on some vast conspiracy of the media- hiding your head in the sand may make you feel better but it won't make you any safer from the eyes and ears of the government. " Oh Please. is the VICTIM mentality that has served the Democrats so faithfully all these years?

Poor Me, Poor Me! I still do not have to show papers when I go to S.F. or L.A....etc. Let them listen and monitor, I have no guilt about my life. They want to come for me let them. If they catch 1, 2, or a dozen terrorists ploting to kill more Americans God Bless them.

Keeping us blind after the Clintoons emasculated our intellegence agencies in the 90's. It typical, yes typical that the left fights any type of intellegence gathering efforsts. You probably do not even know about the mosques that the minute men have discovered along our southern boarders. before you blame Bush, know that any point in the last year Nacy and the Democratically controlled Congress could have sealed our boarders and they haven't. They would keep us blind.

Do whatever it takes to keep a terrorist from killing another American on this soil! If the Dems do not want to do that, then leave my freaking guns alone and let me protect myself! "

" Raven-

I guess you would open the gates and allow them to walk in. That is a fitting memory to all those that died at the hands of terrorists.

How sad you do not love your country enough to protect it.

" freeport ....what are you talking about...if you turn this country into an armed camp so you can sleep a lil better at night...what have you gained...that America you wax about so much will be long gone....

I protect my country by making sure neo facists do not gut the constitution in their overwhelming drive to be the first to bow at the temple of security, security, above all security. "
