NAPA - Jose Yokoi, 86, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2008. He was born in Guam on Sept. 1, 1922, to Jose and Maria Yokoi. He became an accomplished carpenter and general contractor for many years and finished his working years as a supervisor for the Guam Port Authority.

He married the love of his life, Vicenta, on Sept. 5, 1947. Together they raised their 10 children. Jose loved to fish and hunt, and enjoyed sharing those hobbies with his children. He also fashioned himself to be a rancher as he always had a huge garden and loved raising animals, especially game birds. He was a big sports fan, particularly of boxing, and was active in several bowling leagues for many years. Jose and Vicenta traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, but his favorite country to visit was Thailand.
Jose was a kind-hearted man who was always ready and willing to help friends and family with their needs. His passion for life will be greatly missed.

Jose is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vicenta; children Irwin S. Yokoi, Sarah Y. Uncangco, Yovetti Y. (John) Taittingfong, Michael S. (Debbie Estrada) Yokoi, Marcia S. (Chris Sousa) Yokoi, Mark S. (Ilene) Yokoi, Joseph S. (Rose) Yokoi and Gina Y. Barron; 24 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous other extended family members. He was preceded in death by sons William S. Yokoi and Raphael S. Yokoi, and son-in-law John Uncangco.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m., at Hopewell Baptist Church, 3755 Linda Vista Ave., Napa, with Pastor Mike Ray officiating. Visitation is on Friday, Aug. 29, from noon to 8 p.m., at Inspiration Chapel and Napa Valley Memorial Park, 2383 Napa-Vallejo Highway, Napa.
