A man running across Highway 29 in Oakville was struck and killed by an oncoming car Monday evening.
The man, whose identity is not known at this time, was standing in the center turn lane on the highway just north of Oakville Cross Road about 8:15 p.m. when he suddenly darted across the northbound lane, according to CHP.
He ran in front of a 2006 Volvo driven by 49-year-old Kathy Wood, said a CHP spokesperson. Wood, CHP stated, was driving about 55 mph and was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the man.
The man, estimated by CHP to be about 35 years of age, died at the scene. He had no identification on him, so CHP did not have a name to release.
Highway 29 was closed in both directions for more than two hours due to the crash.
