Napa's open-door Democrats
Dear editor, I wanted to thank Mike Jacobs for pointing out that the Democrats staffing the booth at the Napa Town & Country Fair felt good about the job that we did with more than 40 volunteers (“Extend Democrats’ era of good feeling,” Aug. 19).
What Mr. Jacobs didn’t observe — perhaps because he didn’t spend time talking with the volunteers — was that the Democrats’ tent is wide open to Independents, Libertarians, Republicans, Greens and others. That’s why we were there. Our goal to register all eligible voters in Napa, no matter what party, has increased the number of registered voters over the last few years by more than 2,000. Besides the fair we have provided voter registration opportunities at the farmers market, chefs market, street fairs and more.
I was confused about his remark that in previous years the Democrats manning the booth didn’t seem to get along, since he didn’t give any examples of what made him come to that conclusion. I personally have staffed a Democrat booth at several fairs and malls over the years and have only felt positive feelings from my fellow volunteers who feel good about doing something positive for their country.
We extend an invitation to Mr. Jacobs, and anyone else interested in our open door policy, to join us at our headquarters, 1015 Coombs Street, on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m., to watch and celebrate Barack Obama’s acceptance speech as the Democratic nominee for president. Our door is always open.

Don't expect the "usuals" to listen to anything you say. As long as they see the word Democrat, they will attack, insult, and mock. "

-Actually, that is generally what liberals do when confronted with non-liberal ideas. It is unfortunate, however, that the party of FDR, Truman, and Kennedy has become the antithesis for conservative and libertarian values and principles. There used to be room for everyone. "

...And with the Obama, Biden, Pelosi, and Reid cartoon characters, we have plenty of ammunition for plenty of belly-laughs...
I'm gonna watch the Democratic convention just for the entertainment it will provide.... They have shot themselves in the foot so many times in the past year that it ought to be nearly as funny as Saturday Night Live....
I heard a montage of the cutting things Joe Biden said about Obama during the past couple of years, so knowing that the 'kiss and make up' show they'll put on for show will be great satire.
And then there's Bill Clinton, who I've seen interviewed recently, and can barely hide his seething anger about how Hillary was aced out.
Wanna share some popcorn...??? ;-) "

Why did they build detention centers in Denver and not in St. Paul.
The mystery depends. "

Dwayne- do not forget to tell your daughter that they had to outlaw containers that hold bodily waste so no one would be throwing human waste at people. What a progressive and civilized party the Democrats are. He He. "

" actually dwayne, it wasn't the mayor but a commission set up to establish guideline for police priorities during the convention. "
That's even worse... A meeting of the liberal minds who know what can/has happened...
A huge 'secret' (sic) detention center, and a suspention of drug laws...??? Wowie... Things are gonna be happenin' in Denver...
None of that's going on at the Republican convention, so I wonder what the difference is...??? Perhaps it has something to do with the type of people involved...??? "

I've heard from friends in Denver that the citizens there are not overwhelmingly happy about the Dem convention being there, but of course it's all about the money so the city leaders went and got it. I don't have a source but I read that there are more independents in Colorado than Repubs or Dems. Maybe there is hope yet. "

Considering that the Democrats are offering a welfare state to the country, it is not hard to lean to the right.

I still believe (hope?) that when the current version of the Republican party goes down the drain, a coalition of conservative/libertarian/independent voters will form and we can get a critical mass and have a voice in what direction our country is headed. In a way I dread the thought that Socialist Obama (St. Obama) might get elected and do much damage to our country, but maybe that will wake up a lot of folks and that may be the turning point. I watch with great interest. In the meantime I continue to plug away here at the keyboard.
In reality, I am honing my speechwriting skills so I can get a job with one of the candidates and write stuff between the lines, y'know, I just want to hear Obama read from his TelePrompter "And I believe we need a smaller government - wait a minute - who wrote this - what do you mean a flamingo wrote this? Oh, it's OK, I'm pandering to the libertarians today. "

Let us talk about Republicans.
1) Used propaganda and fear to scare the U.S. public into going to war with Iraq over WMD (remember them?).
2) Cut taxes to the rich otherwise known as "voodoo" economics or "trickle down" economics which has led to the biggest deficit in our history.
3) Torture and rendition.
4) Illegal spying on U.S. citizens.
5) Suppressed scientific evidence of global climate change.
6) Let a city literally drown from a hurricane and has done nothing to rebuild and clean it up.
7) Outing a CIA agent for political purposes (imagine if a Democrat had done this, there would have been a trial for treason and public hanging already).
8) Let drug companies write the medicare drug bill. Gee, I wonder if they made any money off it?
and on and on it goes. "
