Two register aces at Napa Valley Golf Course

Jeff Taylor and Frank Fieser each had a hole-in-one at Napa Valley Country Club.
Taylor used a 7-iron to ace the par-3, 139-yard fifth hole.

Fieser used a 7-iron to ace the par-3, 120-yard 11th hole.
 

Benefit bocce tourney slated on Saturday
A bocce tournament benefiting the Grant Beltrami Transplant Fund will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at Napa Senior Center, 1500 Jefferson St., in Napa.

The entry fee is $200 and includes lunch. The tournament will be limited to 32 four-member teams. There will also be a raffle and silent auction.

Napa Valley Baseball to hold open tryouts

The Napa Valley Baseball Club will be holding an open practice/tryout for its 13-and-under and 14-and-under teams.

The 14U team will have a try-out Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at Cleve Borman Field in Yountville.

The 13U team will try out on Sept. 7 at 5:15 p.m.the same spot.

Any player turning 13 before April 30, 2009 will play as a 13-year-old and any player turning 14 before April 30, 2009 will play as a 14-year-old. For more information, check: www.eteamz.com/napariverdog.

Napa Valley Swim registration set

The Napa Valley Swim Team will hold its yearly registration from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Napa Valley College pool.

Newcomers will swim for evaluation at 10 a.m. Returning team members should also be on hand for registration. For more information, visit www.napavalleyswim.com or call 257-swim.

Youth flag football league deadline near

The city of Napa’s offering a flag football program for boys and girls, 6-12 years of age. Teams will practice once per week beginning Sept. 22. Games begin Oct. 4 and run through Nov. 15 at the JFK softball fields.

Volunteer coaches are needed. The cost is $79.

Cal Haze 18 gold fall softball tryouts

The Cal Haze 18 gold will conduct tryouts for its fall softball program Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s tryouts are at Allan Witt Park (Field 3), 1741 W. Texas St., Fairfield.

Pitchers and catchers try out from 10-11 a.m. All positions try out from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Sunday’s tryouts are at Petaluma High School, 201 Fair St., Petaluma. All positions try out from 9:45 a.m. to noon.

Charity golf to be held at Silverado on Sept. 12

Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services’ third annual golf tournament, sponsored by Outcome Resources, is Sept. 12 at 8 a.m. at Silverado Resort. For sponsorship opportunities and information, call 258-9080.

Girls volleyball offering on tap through Sept. 3

The city of Napa will have a girls volleyball league for players ages 9 to 14. The season will begin with one-hour practices starting Sept. 22 at the Las Flores Community Center. Games will begin on Oct. 8.

Teams are formed randomly by age and will be self-coached with help from the instructors; however, team moms/dads are needed.  The registration deadline is Sept. 3. For more information, contact recreation coordinator Mike Franchi at 257-9529.
