NAPA — Despite coach Lane Kiffin's desire to have him working every practice session, Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker was on the sidelines for this morning's drills at Redwood Middle School.
Kiffin said Walker was "sore," thus he needed the rest this morning, and he plans to have the former Denver Bronco out at tonight's 7-9 p.m. session.
Neither Walker nor Ronald Curry participated this morning, but Kiffin said they'd both be out tonight. Same for QB Andrew Walter, watching from the back as Marques Tuiasosopo ran the second unit in the a.m. drills. Kiffin continues to rest the fourth-year QB from Arizona State in preparation for Friday's first preseason game of he year when the Raiders square off against the San Francisco 49ers.
Kiffin was quick to praise running back Michael Bush for his effort in the morning drills, pointing out how quickly he picked up a blitz by safety Gabril Wilson.
Kiffin said if Bush could be this consistent in every workout, the Raiders could have a very strong backfield.
Rookie running back Darren McFadden received quite the welcome-to-the-Raiders smack during drills when he caught a screen pass from JaMarcus Russell, only to be immediately met head-on by linebacker Thomas Howard.
The quick pop from Howard sent McFadden sprawling to the turf.
