NVST contingent competes in Junior Olympics
The Napa Valley Swim Team recently took 19 swimmers to Pacific Swimming’s Adam Szmidt Memorial Long Course Juni or Olympics in Concord. The meet featured some 1,300 swimmers and 81 teams.
In the girls 9-10 age division, 9-year-old Nathalie Brewster competed in her first JOs and achieved a best time in the 50-meter backstroke. Maddie Perna, 9, swam the 100 back in a new AA time.
Megan Minor, 10, swam eight events and qualified for the finals in each event. She notched third-place finishes in the 200 individual medley — with a new Western Zone time — as well as the 50 free, 100 free, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 50 back and 100 backke, and placed sixth in the 50 fly.
Madi Anderson, 10, achieved a new AA time and best time in the 100 breaststroke. She also achieved best times in the 50 back, 100 back and 50 breaststroke.
In the boys 9-10 division, 10-year-old Bradley John Erickson — competing in his first JO meet — achieved new AA and Far Western times in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. He also achieved new A and Far Western times in the 50 free, and achieved best times in the 100 and 200 frees.
Rio Barnes, 10, achieved a new AA time and Far Western time in the 200 IM and turned in best times in the 50 and 100 frees. Noah Douglas made his JO debut with a best time in the 50 free and also swam the 50 back.
In the girls 11-12 division, 12-year-old Elise Roberts broke her own team breaststroke records in the 50, 100 and 200 events. She was third in the 50 and fourth in the 100 and 200 with a new AAAA times. Roberts also swam the 50 and 100 frees, the 50 back, 50 fly and 200 IM.
Alex Swanson, 11, got a new AA time in the 100 breaststroke and a new best time in the 100 free.
In the girls 13-14 division, 13-year-old Ximena Mendieta achieved a new best time in the 100 free.
The 13-14 boys division saw Theo St. Francis, 13, get a new AA time in the 50 free and new AA and Far Western times in the 200 back. Seth Anderson, 14, swam the 50 free in new AA time and Far Western times, and 14-year-old Jonathan Fidler achieved a new AA time in the 50 free.
In the girls 15-16 division, 15-year-old Corinne Schafle achieved a new AAA time in the 50 free and new A time in the 200 breaststroke. Brittany Sicard, 15, turned in new AA times in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke.
For the boys 15-16 division, Jesse Risinger, 16, placed second in the 400 IM with a new AAA, Far Western Time and Senior Section Time. He also had a fourth in the 800 free, sixth in the 200 IM in a new AAA time, a seventh in the 100 free and an eighth in the 200 free, also in a new AAA time. Risinger also achieved a new AAA time in the 50 free. McCoy Ayers, 15, achieved a new A time in the I00 back.
In the girls 17-18 division, 17-year-old Mary Kate Fidler placed third in the 100 breaststroke and 18-year-old Danielle Carey was second in the 200 fly and 200 IM.
