A trio of singers who laid the groundwork in the Bay Area for their respective careers teamed up for an engaging music-filled fundraiser at Lincoln Theater last Sunday.

The stars will be out this fall at the Napa Valley Opera House. Just announced, the fall lineup of entertainers: All-time greats like Jose Feliciano, Taj Mahal and David Grisman and John Sebastian will be on the Opera House stage as well as up-and-coming artists like Spencer Day, who was a hit with Opera House patrons when he opened for Rufus Wainwright last spring, or Dengue Fever, with their genre-defying psychedelic surf punk.

Nimbus Arts has created  a permanent ceramics studio offering classes for beginners to advanced students. Nimbus Arts is in the St. Helena Marketplace, 3111 St. Helena Highway, Suite 1B, just north of St. Helena.

Folk-pop musician Shawn Colvin may be best known for her Grammy-award winning single “Sunny Came Home,” but over the course of her nearly 30-year career, the talented singer/songwriter has produced a body of haunting and insightful work. She brings her collection of original tunes and clever covers to the Napa Valley Opera House stage Friday.  

For nearly 80 years, the Napa Valley Opera House sat deserted on Main Street, a decaying reminder of the frontier pride it once represented. Built in 1879, the elegant two-story theater closed its doors in 1914 and remained dark for the rest of the century.

Napa Nest hosts the Westward Film Fest  Friday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m. They’ll be showing films curated by filmmaker John Lightfoot that look at life west of the Mississippi. Bring a sleeping bag and can of beans (or other snacks). Suggested donation is $5.

Lamplighters Music Theatre opens its 56th season with Gilbert and Sullivan’s delightful tale of star-crossed lovers, “The Mikado,” which plays Aug. 9-10 at the Napa Valley Opera House.

Napa Valley College holds auditions for their fall productions Aug. 19 and 20 in the college theaters. Auditions are at 4 p.m. for Linda Daugherty “African Tales of Earth and Sky” and at 7 p.m. for Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House.”
