San Francisco 49ers players and staff are due in Napa later today to prepare for a two-a-day practice Monday with the Oakland Raiders.

The teams practice together from 9-11 a.m. and again later in the day at the Raiders' closed-to-the-public training camp facilities at Redwood Middle School and the Napa Valley Marriott. The team meet up again at the end of the week in the first preseason game of the season for each of them.
Napa Valley Register staff is going to blog from both the morning and afternoon practices, and Marty James is writing a series of articles for the next day's newspaper on what takes place during the dual-team workouts.

" Or perhaps it is from Alex Smith's. Both teams stink, but the Forty Whiners stink more! "

" No WONDER that school has such a premo track and field facility... DID either team help pay for it, or was it all just we sucker NVUSD taxpayers? "

" Funny thing Mark..I was wondering the same thing? does any of NVUSD see any $$$ rolling into town? I doubt it, but we should ask anyhow, NVR moderator, do you have any insight??? just wondering, and just think I pay taxes for public schools and my kids go to private, kind of makes me ant to ask for the voucher system AGAIN! " Since they use our fields you would think they would do something for the public to go and see them. The game on Fri. should be good. "

" Social awareness folks. Remember the election in 2006???? You vote, right? Just in case it slipped your mind....a school bond for 183 million was passed in 06' by the fine voters of Napa County. That is what's financing the fields. As for the Raiders franchise, like em' or hate em'....them coming to Napa for training camp brings a boat load of money in to the community. "

" hmmm...as I recall part of the deal for them to come and use the school including them paying for at least part of the improvements "

" The fields that the Raiders practice on were there LONG before the school bond was passed in 2006. "

" to bad the best cal. team S.D, chargers arent coming up. they could beat both teams. if both teams combined had 22 players on the field. raider/niner rivalry.what a joke. both teams stink. and by the way. if you let the public watch the game.to many people would have to call in sick for work the next day.ub1z2 "

psychochik wrote on Aug 4, 2008 10:33 AM:

" The fields were funded by the Raiders people, but way to ASSume that the school district funded the upgrades. The Raiders put a lot more into this community than probably most of the people that actually live in this community.

just because they arent the best team in the league doesnt mean they dont help out where it truly counts. "

bmxdad wrote on Aug 4, 2008 10:55 AM:

" reason-ator......They most obviously are speaking of the other field...you know, the one surrounded by the "track" as questioned. People need to slow up a little and read thoroughly (I know, I'm asking for way to much) "

" I remember back in the late 70’s you could not find a true 49er fan no matter how hard you tried and I did. We went as always to the stick routing and always thinking this will be our year.
Then in 80’s and 90’s you couldn’t walk 10 yards without running into a 49er faithful, looks like we are back in the late 70’s again.
But we true fans as always are here and always will be true to our team, Go 9ers and welcome to the Napa Valley "

" They really should have a community day for Napa.

I have a friend that works at the Marriott and can't even see them practice.

It's basically for all the elitists and the Players families.

They should show the town that they are happy that we allow them to come here and have training camp! "

" Make Napa Better- They had fan appreciation day but that's no more.
Maybe Al Davis is afraid that Bill Bellicheck has spies who are going to try and steal plays.
The most likely reason is that Al Davis lost his mind years ago and probably doesn't know where Napa is or what it is. "
