Giving it up for Grant and granddad

Save and Share Share
Dear editor, Kevin Courtney did his normal great job in his treatment of the touching story of Grant Beltrami of Napa, and Grant’s upcoming bone marrow transplant in Wisconsin. Grant has aseptic anemia, a rare blood disease (“Transplant hoped to save Napan’s life,” July 28).

As Kevin pointed out, Grant is a very brave young man who has had more than his share of life’s trials and tribulations during what is normally the carefree “growing up” stage of life for boys.
Thanks to Wendy and Joe Beltrami, his parents, Grant has had love and care that has carried him to this fateful stage of his life. Through her tireless efforts and research to get to the bottom of what caused her youngest son to contract aseptic anemia, Wendy has become a very real authority on this serious blood disorder.

Kevin Courtney’s article detailed the Grant Beltrami story of today. Please allow me to add a postscript to what Kevin wrote.
Grant is the grandson of Earl and Gail (Gardner) Randol. Earl, as most residents of Napa County know, was a dedicated officer of the law having served first as a policeman on the Napa Police Department and later (for 12 years) as the sheriff of Napa County. He was also a founding director and major shareholder of Napa Valley Bank, a very successful local bank that was acquired by Westamerica Bank.

Earl (now deceased) loved all children, especially his two grandsons, Grant and his older brother, Dane. Gail, his wife of almost five decades, survives him and is carrying on the kind of love and affection that only a grandparent can have.
Citizens of Napa, as you always are, be generous in your prayers. Be generous also in your giving to the “Grant Beltrami Transplant Fund” at the Bank of Napa.
