A solo crash on Solano Avenue and Darms Lane on Wednesday morning wiped out a Wine Train shed, one that contains machinery that helps operate the railroad crossing gates.

The driver, Adam Lieberstein, 26, escaped serious injuries. The small aluminum shed was reduced to rubble, its debris scattered along the railroad tracks near Darms Lane, just south of Yountville.
Lieberstein was taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center. “He will be there for at least the night,” said his father, Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein.

Lieberstein’s Honda ripped the shed from its foundation and pushed it about 40 feet down the tracks. The front end of the Honda was crumpled and the windshield was shattered.
According to CHP and Napa County Sheriff’s deputies at the scene, Lieberstein was able to get out of the car on his own. His head hit the windshield, causing a cut to his head, paramedics said.

Lieberstein told officers he was northbound on Solano Avenue, when he lost control of his car, careened off the roadway and plowed into the power shed.
“At this time, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor,” CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.

" Is the District Attorney going to cite him for not wearing a seatbelt? "

" I must not be able to read. I missed any seatbelt comments in the story. Have faith in the CHP to determine the cause of the accident. It is good to know the young man was able to get out of the car on his own. "

" Are we talkin Wednesday morning at 10 am or Wednesday morning at 2 am? We usually do hear about seat belts, especially when someone's head "hits the window", but do trust the CHP to follow procedure, no matter who the driver is. Glad that he is ok...horray for aluminum sheds vs. concrete block! "

" “At this time, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor”

So the DA's son inexplicably drives into a railroad shed on the side of the road and alcohol and drugs aren't a factor?

If alcohol and drugs weren't a factor, perhaps speeding was. What are the chances the young Lieberstein gets cited for anything? This stinks of a cover up. "

" Haven't y'all been going the speed limit, driving carefully and safely, with no drugs or alcohol in your system, and suddenly a shed jumps in front of you...??? The shed should be cited for jay-walking...

Seat belts are required to be fastened, not snug enough to keep you from hitting the windshield...

It was probably just an ordinary "accident".... Right.... "

" I think it usually pretty obvious to law enforcement if the driver is under the influence -- odor, bloodshot and dilated eyes and field sobriety tests give strong clues. The hospital no doubt took blood. I'm sure they administered all the right tests. It must be hard for people in authority when their family members are involved in an accident or worse -- people always allege cover up. On the other hand, I believe the CHP to be honest and they will cite as is suitable for the incident. I also believe Gary Lieberstein is honest and if criminal charges are brought that he will see that they are processed and recuse himself. "

" He is the D.A's son?
I passed by and some guy got off the freeway and asked him if he was okay then went back in his car and left. "

" Some of the comments are pretty unfair. I would imagine Mr. Lieberstein is far more concerned at this point about the welfare of his son then he is about whether any charges are being sought. Let the CHP do its job and let Mr. Lieberstein tend to his son. "

" LOL@ Coverup. No doubt. "

" I want to be fair, but this type of accident should require an investigation of DUI with a PAS devise (from the CHP's car) or blood at the hospital. For the CHP to say "At this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor", seems like no effort/investigation was made to see whether they were--which points to a cover-up.

I hope the Register chooses to follow-up. Yes, I want to believe Gary Lieberstein would not coverup with CHP's, but anyone's first instinct is to do just that. "
