Two individuals were arrested early this morning on suspicion of tagging numerous locations in Napa, according to police.

Alvin Maurice Thomas, 20, and Jena Danielle Cloud, 19, were picked up at a home in the 1500 block of Menlo Avenue, following two days of investigation into the suspects, according to Napa police.
Thomas is responsible for tagging with the moniker of “Samo,” police stated, while Cloud reportedly uses the moniker “imajen,” while tagging.

Police said the probe was launched July 7.
During the investigation, police stated evidence was recovered through a probation search. Arrest warrants were obtained and the suspects have been booked.

These two suspects were pretty stupid. "Samo" is the last 4 letters of "Thomas" spelled backwards, and "imajen" most likely refers to Suspect #2's first name. Brilliant. Hopefully these geniuses are held financially responsible for spraying their signatures all over town. "

19 and 20 years old, tagging up the town. They certainly amounted to something, didn't they?

I'm assuming that tagging is the least of their offenses when it comes to their criminal history.

Normal human beings don't suddenly become "taggers" at ages 19 and 20. These two (And others like them) clearly have "issues." "

Fine these people heavily to help pay for graffiti on private property. Make them also serve long sentences cleaning graffiti. Pay them after a certain period of time and put 70% of that pay into an account for cleaning private property. "

The disgrace here is that it is local residents destroying the town they live in without regard to the effect it has on their neighbors and other residents. The effect it has on tourists is the least of it in my opinion. "

" ImajenPeace, I was actually happy to see your participation in this blog.
But your side of the story makes you appear like an impulsive young woman with an attitude problem.

I like peace signs: on my shirt, on removable car stickers, on my own private property if that's where I choose to put them. Mixing peace signs with graffiti is degrading to the concept of peace. Peace is not about "forcing" your philosophy on others; it's not about "getting in people's faces"; it's certainly not about wearing a blatant attitude. Peace is subliminal. Some people wear it comfortably in their personalities. Peace can speak without words, but when words are spoken, they're a gentle motion, not a tidal wave.

Grafitti is not "peace". It's a passive form of aggression, the kind which permeates outward and imposes itself on a community. You're not exactly holding someone down and punching them directly in the face. Rather, graffiti is the equivalent of spitting in the face of an entire community.

And so what I think you have lost touch with is the sense of "community". Perhaps your 3.5 GPA mind can brainstorm on ways of teaching your peers to value community; not just your self preoccupied peer community but the larger one outside of those well trodden lines dug so deep you have nowhere to move except in a circle.

You can start by apologizing to the bigger community. "

Selim wrote on Jul 30, 2008 12:09 PM:

" If Jena's mother is actually "proud", then I think we can all see how she ended up like this. Yes, nothing makes a parent so proud as to have their child noted in the paper for vandalism. Hooray!

And MatthewSeven, thanks oh so much for listing your criminal record. Just because you failed to learn your lesson (apparently numerous times), it doesn't make the rest of us unable to judge. I have made plenty of stupid mistakes...but very few have ever involved the police and NONE have every involved getting cuffed.

And judging IS the job of the community. What do you think "a jury of your peers" is? If the community at large doesn't take a stand for what it believes is right or wrong, then we'll be left with this "moral relativity" that just lets anything go. Graffiti, noise complaints, drunk driving, theft of property...hey, who are you to judge, right? Some folks simply do not find their own moral compass, and they need a little "state-funded assistance".

Simple solution: put these two vandals in orange jumpsuits and have 'em clean graffiti from one end of Napa to the other. "

For someone to brag about their deeds and take pride in it shows a shocking lack of remorse and good sense.
I'm sure the judge will agree. I hope the artists have ample opportunity to remove the "art" of other dogs out there marking their territory. She may feel differently by the end of this all. "

Of course it was some time ago, statute of limitations and all. The deal is this....getting caught is different than breaking the law. You all break laws. If you are going to be so hard on this one person, may everyone be so hard on you when you get caught. Judge not lest ye be judged. "

" Doing 110 mph on the freeway isn't impressive. It's hardly something to brag about. The biggest beef everyone has with Imajen is that she isn't showing any remorse for her actions. She destroyed someone's property. Whether you get caught or not, it's a stupid thing to do and if you do get caught you deserve what's coming to you. Same thing if you're doing 110 on the freeway. "

You know what's really sick? You're actually very proud of all this. You love the attention and think you're way-cool among your fellow peace protesters because you've gotten busted for the "cause". This is like a moment in the limelight for you. How very sad indeed. "

matthewseven wrote on Jul 31, 2008 9:00 AM:

" Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation today to hold offenders accountable for crimes of vandalism and to remove graffiti from California 's streets and neighborhoods.

AB 1767 by San Francisco Assemblywoman Fiona Ma mandates community service for a person who has committed a criminal act of graffiti vandalism, and AB 2609 by Los Angeles Assemblyman Mike Davis requires defendants convicted of graffiti vandalism to clean up or repair the defaced or damaged property.

AB 1767 will be tested in a San Francisco pilot program where violators of graffiti vandalism will be ordered to participate in a minimum of 24 hours of community service if they have reached a civil compromise with the victim. This law targets graffiti abatement service programs as the community service outlet for offenders and remains in effect until January 1, 2012.

Similarly, AB 2609 requires the court to order offenders paroled for a graffiti violation to clean up, repair or replace the damaged property. Defendants would also be required to keep the damaged property or another specified property in the community free of graffiti for up to one year. "

" One of the things that struck me about the original article was the age of these taggers....Kind of old for such foolishness. I raised 2 teenage boys and know from experience that their brains seemed to be in the off position much of the time. But, by the time they were 19 and 20???? It never would of entered their heads to spray paint grafitti.....there was a side walk chalk incident....but that was easily removed with water.... The second thing that struck me was the arrogance and immaturity of Jena Cloud. I am sure her mom has had proud moments, but as a parent, I would like to let Jena know that this is probably not one of them. I think Jena could use a good long "time out" for some reflection on personal responsibility and what being an adult entails. I do not think she has done enough of this yet. If she had she would of never written the foolish responses she posted here. It appears she is a case of arrested developement, and hopefully this experience will give her some insight. The third thing is that this type of behavior and immaturity seems to more and more common. I think it has to do with raising children in a way that they think they are entitled to anything they want. Wake up parents....do we want a generation of spoiled brats in charge in 15 years? "

For some reason, those comments never made the cut. However, Jena, being the quality student you are, I would suggest you think about how such things are dealt with in Taiwan. I am a proponent of learning from the examples of other countries ion the world, and this is an example that would serve us well here. Michael Fay learned about this first hand in 1994. I think he is only now able to sit down without a pillow (if you get my meaning). "

But I have noticed that “America haters” like to point to what the French, Germans, British, whoever do as an example of what we should do in America. So, given that thought, perhaps we should base our structure of crime and punishment in line with others that seem to be effective in deterring crime. Jena seems to think America needs to change it’s ways. Let’s start with how we deal with people like her. "
