Florence Howlett

ANGWIN - Florence Winton-Longway-Fisher-Howlett, born Oct. 16, 1910, in Macau, to missionary parents, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at her residence in Angwin.

She graduated from Los Angeles County General Hospital in medical technology and taught it at White Memorial Hospital. She served in Bangkok Mission and Phuket Adventist hospitals; established and administered Saigon Adventist Hospital; was a purchasing agent at St. Helena Hospital; and, with Ezra Longway, spent 15 years with Hong Kong Adventist Hospital. After 90, she co-authored 100 Years of Adventism in China, authored Lotus Blossom Returns, and Robert Melvin & Alma Milne, Longest-Serving Adventist Missionaries, 1920-1994.

She is survived by husband Rolland H. Howlett; brother Dr. Sherman Nagel; daughter Mary Dunn; son William Winton; stepdaughters Pat O’Neil and Louise Driver; three granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, and a host of stepdescendants from four marriages to missionary husbands.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m., at Scales Memorial Chapel (Pacific Union College Seventh-day Adventist Church). Viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow in the St. Helena Cemetery.
