Man's fall, injury halts Wine Train

The Napa Valley Wine Train on Friday made an emergency stop north of Napa Friday when a passenger fell and injured his face, according to the Napa Fire Department.
The 44-year-old man suffered facial bruises and scratches when he fell from a staircase inside the train, Napa Fire Capt. Steve Brassfield said Friday. He was transported by Piner’s Ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center with minor facial trauma.
The train stopped south of Trower, he said.
Melodie Hilton, director of marketing for the Wine Train, who was on board Friday when the train stopped sometime before 2 p.m., said she could not release the passenger’s name or disclose the customer’s condition.
The train was returning from St. Helena to Napa, she said. It left Napa at 11:30 a.m.
Lost man found
Also on Friday, a 61-year-old man suffering from dementia was found early in the afternoon after a morning-long search in the Deer Park area, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Department.
The man, who is legally blind, had been missing since midnight from the 400 block of Glass Mountain Road.
His wife reported her husband missing at 7 a.m., Napa County Sheriff’s Capt. John Robertson said.
Napa County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, Sheriff’s deputies, as well as an air squadron and a California Highway Patrol helicopter, participated in the search.
The department notified 2,500 residents in the Deer Park, Angwin and St. Helena areas that the search was under way, thanks to its new automatic telephone notification system, Robertson said.
The man was found in a culvert near Glass Mountain Road, a mountainous area.
Aside from some bumps and bruises, the man was OK, Robertson said. He was transported to St. Helena Hospital for a checkup.
People think they can find their missing relative on their own, Robertson said. But missing persons should be reported immediately, he said. The longer the wait, the greater the risks of injuries.
