Who cut the scenery on Scenic?

Dear editor, Short of a disease, what brain surgeons cut the trees on Scenic south of the Scenic/Linda Mesa Way intersection?

Were there any public notices posted?
I cannot help but feel there were other ways to solve the sidewalk problem, which I am assuming was the reason.

" Trower from hwy 29 east to Lassen had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. I think city workers were afraid you might be jealous of Trower's butchering?
Now you, too, can have strips of flat sidewalk and new twigs - er, TREES. Besides, who ever said that having naturally provided shade was a good thing? "

" I agree -- what kind of public notice was there? Do the people who actually live in this neighborhood get any input as to what happens here? Apparently not.

Was cutting down 20 or so beautiful, established trees the only solution here? "

" The tree roots were destroying the sidewalks. The only way to fix it is to take the trees out and fix the sidewalks. They were a trip hazard. My Uncle fell due to uneven sidewalks last year and ended up having to have hip replacement surgery.

Look, you can't have it both ways. People complain about the lack of street/road repair and then find something to complain about when things get fixed. Geezz..... "

" The trees that were removed on Scenic were Liquid Ambers. The roots of these trees had thoroughly destroyed the sidewalks and street in that area. That street is receiving repairs and new pavement right now, and to make those repairs and leave the destructive trees would mean the new street and sidewalk would soon be destroyed as well. It is never the preference to remove mature trees but sometimes it is the responsible choice. New trees will be planted. However, they will not be Liquid Ambers as it was discovered some years ago that these make a poor choice for City streets trees, due to their aggressive root growth. (Google "liquid amber problems" and you will see many tales of damage caused by this tree.) These are also the trees that drop the spiked balls that are an annoyance when they cover the sidewalks. I can always be reached at 707-258-7843 or bmartin at cityofnapa dot org for information on brain surgery and other City activities. "

" I am glad to hear that the city has decided to take up brain surgery. Are they looking into rocket science as well? :) "

" No wonder the city runs short of money, paying brain surgeons to cut trees. I'm sure they are nicely cut though.

What function will we have the rocket scientists perform? I've always liked the speed limit signs that have the "enforced by aircraft" sign under them. Gives me a mental picture of enforcement aircraft strafing speeders. But maybe modern rockets like the military have would be much cleaner with less collateral damage. "

" I used to live right across the street from these tree's on scenic and noticed even back then that the sidewalks were in real bad shape.

So though it's a great idea to fix these sidewalks; was cutting the tree's down really the answer? "

" I would like to see the city tackle street repairs and fourth of July parades before taking on brain surgery and rocket science. :) "

" PPF....hmmm I was thinking about your post....My son works with the Preditor Drone, and complains about lack of missions to keep him busy....Perhaps the Air Force could help with speeders? I bet they could even target offending trees. Multi tasking, ya know? "
