2:30 p.m.A squirrel met his maker Monday morning when he connected with a high power line and a transformer, resulting in a small brush fire.

The mishap happened around 10 a.m. in the 4400 block of Redwood Road in west Napa.
When the squirrel made contact with it, the transformer shorted out and the power lines arced, said Barry Biermann, CalFire battalion chief.

The fire burned a couple of acres before it was squelched by county firefighters.
No one was injured, and no structures were threatened.

" When I saw the headline I thought this story was about Mike Huckabee. "

" I didn't know Huckabee fancied squirrels. Fried, anyway.

Anyway, the article ends with an incorrect statement: the squirrel was. in fact, injured. Mortally. RIP little friend. "

" Oh yeah, youtube "Huckabee fried squirrel." Pretty funny. Apparently they used to catch squirrels and fry them in college. "

" When I was in college, we took chickens and fried them. We were broke & starving. Caught a wild turkey, too - named him Walter, and some buddies led him around on a leash on campus - anyway, we took him to the local jail for the inmates to have Thanksgiving. I have eaten squirrel - it does NOT taste like chicken! "

I ran a squirrel over a few months ago, I almost cried. I almost caused an accident trying to aviod hitting an other one. Why do they run in front of cars? "

" Umm... Napa style cuisine?

Those who are worried about a squirrel being electrocuted need to move back to Berkeley and start commuting into Napa in their Priuses. Come on folks, you live in an agricultural county! A prerequisite of living here should be that you must have personally raised, killed, cleaned and eaten a chicken. Get connected to mother earth -- learn to live as part of the world!

That said, I do feel bad for the poor little squirrel :) "

" You know its getting serious when we ask why squirrels run in front of cars... "

MarkMiwords wrote on Jul 22, 2008 9:52 AM:

" Kevhund, according to the graduating class of 2004, squirrels run in front of cars as part of an elaborate plot to overthrow mankind. =:0 Just remember, you heard it here first folks! "

" Squirrel is far superior to armadillo. When I worked in Texas, I had the opportunity to try BBQ'd 'dillo. Not too bad but I go for the fried squirrel any day.

And besides, when you hit a squirrel, no problem. Do not run over an armadillo, major damage. "

" Mark- I thought it was cats who were out to get us? Or maybe cats and squirrels have teamed up and are plotting to overthrow man. "
