Small quake rattles Calistoga

A magnitude 2.8 earthquake hit just outside Calistoga early this morning.

The small quake that struck just after 6 a.m. was reported to be three miles southwest of Calistoga and 11 miles northwest of St. Helena, according to the US Geological Survey.

No damage or injuries were reported in the area from the small temblor.

Between Clear Lake and Santa Rosa there is a geothermal site that regularly send tremblers that average about 1.9. This is often considered a kind of safety valve for our area as the energy produced from the Geysers is used to provide electricity to some areas. "
