The fair and American way

Dear editor, I recently saw the ad in Napa Valley Magazine about the fair in August. Well, I was surprised that the theme is not an American one, like it always has been. Why is it that everything is in Spanish? What happened to the Americans? I, and others, am tired of being walked on and being treated second-class when I was born American and deserve respect. I do not plan on taking my grandchildren to this fair. This is not fair to us who live in Napa and deserve to have the American way.

" GOOD FOR YOU ROSE!!!!!!!!!! I am not going for the same reason. It's a joke. All my friends that I talk to in 4-H say the same thing. I hope the fair tanks this year, then Mr. Anderson will realized what a mistake he made. "

" It is wrong to elevate one group above the rest for the biggest and most significant local even of the year. We should be celebrating everyone in our community equally, not catering to one minority (out of the many in this valley). "

" Thank you for saying it! I'm so tired of people taking to me in SPANISH, Its seem like everything is in spanish! I wonder if I move to Mexico if they would learn english for me? I will not spend a dime at the fair!!!! "

" Umm...since when did a "fiesta" elevate one group above all the others? Last time I checked, "fiesta" meant "party" in Spanish...and there are tens of Spanish-speaking countries. So... what group are we elevating? Human beings?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'M tired of "born Americans" (code for white people) screaming racism when another culture is integrated into the American one--which, by the way, is a conglomeration of HUNDREDS of different cultures.

What do you want to bet Rose wouldn't have a problem if this were Irish or English themed? "

" I'm glad you mean spirited people are not going this year. Maybe it will be enjoyable for a change. It has generally been just a rehash of the Home Show with rides. As for it being the towns biggest event of the year...really? That's too bad because I think the crab feeds in January and February are a lot more fun. "
