President George W. Bush’s expected arrival in the Napa Valley late tomorrow is sending local anti-war activists into high gear.

Joanne Gifford, chairwoman of United Napans Concerned Over the Iraq Lunacy, said the group is organizing an open protest slate tomorrow afternoon to raise awareness about the war in the Middle East.
Beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, UNCOIL members will wield signs at the intersections of highways 29 and 121, she said.

“There will be a display of crosses ... to stand as a reminder that the war continues and people continue to die as a result of it,” Gifford said, adding that an UNCOIL representative will contact the California Highway Patrol to notify them of the protest plans.
After the initial gathering, the group plans to caravan to Larkmead Lane, where some believe the president plans to attend a fundraising event at Frank Family Vineyards.

“We’re doing this not only to remind the president that we think (the Iraq War) is wrong, but to put it in the public eye,” she said. “I think people forget that we are at war.”
White House staff has not confirmed what location President Bush will be at in Napa when he comes for a Republican National Committee fundraiser.

" JimClark,
Great point.

How disrespectful these activists are.

Do they understand that our troops volunteered to be under our Commander in Chief orders?

Correct me if I am wrong, please, but our military does not have slaves as troops.
Whoever doesn't like it, want it, desires it, quits at anytime -consequences may apply, however. Nevertheless, I am almost sure somebody, especially a Bush hater, would offer them a job ASAP, no questions ask.
I could very well be wrong though. "

" That is an odd name. It sounds like they're trying to bring sanity to the Iraqi people. I guess they are in a way. "

" Hippies crack me up. What a giant waste of time. What do they think this will accomplish? Haha, hilarious. Why don't they just climb the largest tree at Frank Family Vineyards while they're at it? "

" Actually Jim Clark, at Kent State protestors in the USA were shot. Nothing to do with Bush of course, but just a reminder that we are not so above that kind of thing. "

" I think this is wonderful keep on protesting, although it won't do any good! Except I would honk my horn and grab a sign...Bush see ya! Wouldn't want to be ya! "

" And can anyone tell me how exercising your rights, such as freedom of speech, which these protesters are doing, is being disrespectful? "

" It makes me laugh that everyone thinks of anti-war protestors as "hippies". What is a "hippie" in 2008? These guys are just ultra-liberal folks, making use of their rights as citizens of this country. You know... the rights that my grandfather, father, uncles, cousins and friends fought for. Total waste of their time and energy! They think they are hurting Bush? He's got "short timer's disease"...and there is no way that this protest is going to have an even small degree of "success". They should be directing their wishes to whomever they feel is their "best bet" in the upcoming presidential election. And suze, Kent State was 40 years ago...the world has changed for the better in this regard...at least it has in the USA. "

" Imagine a President so unpopular that the venue at which he is scheduled to appear must be kept secret! Mr. Bush might be a successful fundraiser, but efforts to help the 2008 GOP residential candidate succeed in California will fail. Senator Obama is almost certain to win California's electoral votes in November. "

" U.N.C.O.I.L. should protest at Napa State - they could climb on the swings, make peacock sounds, and recruit new members. (Is UNCOIL the best acronym these collective intellectuals could come up with? - Makes it sound like they're yelling: "UNCLE!" as in "We surrender!", "We give up!", or "Better Red than Dead!".) I support their right to protest, I just don't support them. "

" There are always a select few who need attention by protesting. There are alot of other ways to help support the service men and women in a more possative way.I am a Gulf War veteran and have been to the middle east many times myself defending our country.Send our soldiers a care package, a E-mail or write them a letter. This yelling and screaming you call protesting is not helping the soldiers out on patrol right now.Keep them in your prayers and thank them for their service. The president will be flying in and out I'm sure.Be proud of our service men and women. They volunteered to keep this a free country during trying times all over the world. Semper Fi!!!!! "

Raven wrote on Jul 17, 2008 9:09 AM:

" Marine, I don't think anyone here is not proud of the men and women who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and many of those who are protesting are trying to show that support by getting them out of harm's way. "
