Here in Napa, we don’t always feel connected to the outside world.

Recent letters to the Register convince me that a short review of high school chemistry would clarify thinking about fossil fuels and the recent spike in carbon dioxide levels, which Al Gore brought to our attention.

Dear editor, I agree with the disparaging remarks concerning the farce of a parade on July 4. My family walked through town, brought chairs and settled in to enjoy a decent parade. I completely missed it, as I turned my head to see where my son was.

Dear editor, I was puzzled by Barack Obama’s demeaning statement concerning Americans’ lack of skill in the use of languages other than English. He shows a great lack of understanding of the extensive worldwide acceptance of English. He also did not address the importance for Americans to learn the proper use of the English language nor did he address the tragedy that our beautiful language has been supplanted by Ebonics, jive and other derivatives to the point that many American citizens are unemployable.

Dear editor, Over several days, we have been “treated” to a few people who question and show disdain for gay marriage, neither of which gave any concrete reasons but prefer to hide behind procreation or so-called religious reasons.

As was announced in last week’s Register, I have decided - with the support and encouragement of family, friends and community members - to join the race for American Canyon city council this fall.

I wrote last time of dark chaos, of the tremendous fears that are swirling around now about so many ongoing issues. But there is also the positive, light chaos that is showing itself in bits and pieces through the fears.
