" missmarvelous, I have to say that I do agree with you although I do not live there. Vallejo was doomed from the moment they closed Mare Island, laying off thousands of workers, not even taking into account the impact on the local businesses, etc. Vallejo cannot support these people and has enough of it's own problems. I also agree strongly with 2sides, we definately need better release qualifications for prisoners. Alot that are released into society have been in and out of juvenile centers, jails, and prisons most of their lives and don't know how to be productive in society, incarceration is the only security they know. Personally, I think that every prisoner who will be eventually released and is not badly disabled, needs to be trained on work assignment, like cooking, firefighting, mechanics, making things, whatever, that helps the prison or society in general and creates income, should have a decent portion of pay put into account for them, the other part going towards their keep. That way, depending on how long they are incarcerated, they will have money purportioned to their work and time. We need to give these prisoners hope and a sense of self worth, that is what will keep them out of trouble. Also, now I might tick some people off here but I truely believe that drug addicts and alcoholics do not belong in the prison or jail system, they belong in intense rehabs. These people have very deep seeded problems and some also have the hereditary part of it. They will reoffend over and over until they have rehab, period. Why crowd our already taxed prison system with people that could be treated elsewhere? "
