A thirsty thief made off with more than just a bottle of water on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 11:45 a.m., a man walked into the Country Creamery in the Safeway shopping center in American Canyon and attempted to purchase a bottle of water, American Canyon Police Chief Brian Banducci said.
When the store clerk opened the cash register, the man reached over the counter and helped himself to a fistful of money, Banducci said.

“He fled the store with the money  — and the water — on foot,” he said.
Banducci said no weapons were seen, and the man did not threaten anyone.

The man is described as white, about 5-foot-9, 200 pounds and around 30 years old.
Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s detective Chris Carlisle at 253-4591.

" There's about 6 people who fit that description at Longs Drugs right now, 9 at Safeway, 2 at Shell Gas Station... "
