Let the young decide the future

Dear editor, I turn 60 in July. It occurs to me that I have no business voting in November. I had my chance and screwed it up. Us old people are short-sighted because we won’t suffer the long-term consequences of our mistakes.

Those who will, the young, should be allowed to decide their future free from the stupidity, ignorance and selfishness of proven incompetents like me.

" Dave,
I have fewer years under my belt-but I disagree with your thought. You have learned, gained wisdom...now is the BEST time for you to vote. My generation may THINK we have all of the answers, but everyone knows that you improve with age. There are many things you have witnessed, experienced and understand that many younger than you just simply haven't due to age. Please take the time educate the adults of tomorrow why it's important to focus on the long-term consequences of mistakes that can be made. Dave, if you don't vote, the country will be in danger, you're blindly turning it over to a group with much less knowledge of the consequences of actions . "

" I disagree with Dave's premise that older voters are "short sighted". On the contrary, due to our life experiences we have a unique perspective that allows us to filter out the BS that the mainstream media throws at us. We have seen where the country has been and we know where the country should be going for the good of our children and grandchildren.

I do agree with Dave's decision that HE should not vote. Someone with serious self esteem issues would not be an informed, knowledgable voter.... "

" Kev,

Enlighten us all on how somebody with self-esteem issues wouldn't be informed or knowledgable. I fail to see the correlation, or are you just spewing more nonsense? "

" Dave, I know how you feel. I am sick of baby boomers and all their self righteous morality and unwillingness to try to work together.

I think younger people in general have a much greater sense of being united and working together.

I just wish they would wake up and get involved. "

" I agree with napablogger's comment and musikluvr's post on Measure N. It is a disgrace that so few people vote. I propose a new rule: If you don't vote, you have to keep your comments to yourself. "

" teacher??? you are supposed to be a liberal, you sound like a right wing disciplinarian on this one. Hang in here, we will make a Republican out of you yet. I can see you do have what it takes in you somewhere. :) "

" NB: I was joking (sort of). I'll never become a republican or a conservative. To me the basic difference between the left and the right is this:

The further right you go the less you feel responsible for other people. It's every man for himself, why can't those people just be responsible, personal responsibility, etc. It's survival of the fitest, social Darwinism, some people are just better than others.

The further left you go it's more about taking care of everyone, about pulling together, about sharing, about working together. I know you can find some less flattering way to put that.

It's a pessimistic vs a optimistic view of people. You can try to convince me it's different. Good luck with that. "
