Getting ready for the relay
Dear editor, Thank you for your great coverage of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Napa Valley, scheduled for July 26-27 at Napa Valley College.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship, remember those who have lost their battle with cancer and to fight back against the disease that takes too many lives. We raise funds to support research, education and advocacy, and to support the free programs and services available here in Napa County for cancer patients and their families.
During the event teams of people gather at Napa Valley College and take turns walking the track. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
This letter is to invite and encourage cancer survivors to attend the event and be our guests of honor. There will be a tented area available for survivors and their families to sit in the shade, enjoy refreshments, and watch the daytime activities as well as the luminaria ceremony, which begins at dusk. This year, we are also having a special survivor reception in the evening, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The event begins at 9 a.m., when our guests of honor — the survivors — take the first lap to officially start the 2008 Relay For Life.
For additional information, please contact your local American Cancer Society at 255-5911 or by visiting www.relayforlife.org.
Come out and be our guests!
