OK, folks, you've been debating online here for about two weeks now whether John McCain or Barack Obama is your choice for president.

Now it is time to take the debate one step further, and make your suggestions for the vice presidential candidates.
In this forum, only comments on Obama are being posted.

In another forum, only McCain comments are being posted.
So go for it, positive debate about the VP's here, no other-party bashing allowed.

" Seeing as Obama has a record of bi - partisan cooperation...I think he should go outside the box even more, and take Colin Powell. The reasons for that would be pretty obvious. Mind you, race has NOTHING to do with it!..It would make him hugely strong on things such as national security. Since Mr. Powell's Old bosses are done with him, I think it would add more meat to the plate so to speak! If not Powell, then an ex military man would do. "

" Powell is very close to McCain….I doubt he would be seen in public with Obama. "

" ADark1, that would be a great pick for Obama (and no way in hell Im voting for Obama) but he doesnt have it in him to choose one from the other side. Honestly Im a huge fan of Colin Powell and would have loved to see him run for President, but hes too smart for that and doesnt have the ego.
Secondly Obama does not have a record of bi-partisanship. His has 2 bills co-authored with a republican;
The Lugar-Obama bill did pass and was to enhance efforts to destroy weapons stockpiles.
The Coburn-Obama bill was to set up a database tracking federal funds to contractors.

Honestly in both those cases it was more of the Republicans working the bi-partisan angle than Obama.

The congressional record is very clear, Obama is left of Sen Kennedy and right of Satan. ;)

But hey, thats just my $.02 "

" How about the great and admirable Reverend Wright as VP? We all know that Obama thinks very highly of him. Why else would Obama choose to listen to his sermons for 20 years, perform his marriage ceremony, christen his children, etc. Oh wait, Obama just recently said he doesn't share the Reverends views. Never mind. "

" Jim Webb, Senator from Virginia.

I'll be tempted to vote for McCain if he chooses Clinton (she dissed him one too many times). However, there is a wisdom to keeping her close (keep your friends close and your enemies closer). She'd have little incentive to sabotage his presidency if she was on the ticket. "

" I cant believe anyone would think he should choose Hilary. One, just the principle of the way she talked about him during the campaign. Two, she is so shady and underhanded, I'd bet my house that she'd have him off'd just so she would become president. "

" Actually I agree with Bill. Jim Webb.

He is a good ole Southern boy, an old tyme Democrat, a pistol packing, tobacco chewin', stars and bars lovin', RELee admiring, ex-Marine.

It will never happen, under the bus goes Jim Webb. Too much change for BHO. "

russ wrote on Jun 20, 2008 8:44 PM:

" Bill, Ralph Nader's greatest contribution to mankind was advocating seat belts in 1964, resulting in mandates for seat belts. This accomplishment cannot be underestimated. I have worn a seat belt since that time.

That was the last thing Ralph Nader did, as I recall. "

plasticpinkflamingo wrote on Jun 23, 2008 8:40 PM:

" If the deleted comments were those about Obama's bipartisanship or lack thereof, I submit that they are on topic. If there is a lack, he would need to compensate for it in the VP choice. Same thing for his most liberal voting record claim - if he recognizes that, he will need balance. Or not, if he thinks that is an advantage.

The first post states that Obama has a record of bipartisanship, which some of us take exception with, and the lost posts are necessary to challenge the claim in the first post. Maybe the deleted posts should have tied their responses to using a specific potential candidate name as an example, but the point remains that Obama's bipartisanship and liberal voting record may or may not need compensating for on the ticket, which seems to me to be quite on topic. "

" NVR Moderator says: "A series of comments were deleted from this thread for being off-topic."

Oh look...we're being censored again. But only on the Obama VP forum...if you go over to the McCain VP forum, there are suggestions for "Jesus" as his VP candidate. Why wasn't that removed? How is that constructive?

Smells of liberal BIAS.

The ideal solution is to restore the original posts, please, and let people's opinion, even if sarcastic, be heard. Intellectual debate AND emotional outburst are both valid measures of how people are approaching this topic. "

Dan Ross wrote on Jun 24, 2008 10:41 AM:

" Common Sense and PPF:
Thanks for the comment but no, posts completely unrelated to the topic of the Democratic VP choice were deleted because this forum is about the VP choice.
Some deleted posts were about Republican options, some were completely off-topic, none should have initally been approved, all were deleted. "

Hear Ye wrote on Jun 24, 2008 2:00 PM:

" Common Sense-

So someone mentioned Jesus for mccain, yet we have suggestions such as Rev. Wright, Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, and dumpster muffin for Obama. Yea liberal bias indeed. Four absurd comments (although dumpster muffin is admittedly hilarious) towards the democrats and one towards republicans. hmmmm

I would like Obama to choose someone who will not only be a capable vice-president but will also help him carry a swing state (traditional or not) "

common sense wrote on Jun 24, 2008 6:09 PM:

" Hear Ye, if Jesus is going to be permitted for McCain (the post is still there in the McCain VP forum, 6/19/08 10:53pm), then Ahmadinejad and Chavez should be permitted for Obama.

Either ban sarcastic suggestions for both or allow them...but to permit it for one side and not the other is a clear case of bias. "

You're absolutely right. That's why the suggestions that I pointed out are still there and have not been deleted. Scroll down and you will see your earlier picks for Obamas vice president. "

" Come to think of it..I agree with fire girlBill Richardson would be great! We just haven't figured what can be done to have HRC supporters fully jump aboard short of having her on the ticket? I personally wouldn't turn my back on HRC..

What about Claire McCaskill? She seems to be pretty well grounded. Could probably give Obama some tips on common sense. "

" My long time favorite has always been Wesley Clark, He is the only way I could ever Imagine voting for Obama. He gets working class voters, He shores up obamas weaknesses, He is a long time Hilary Supporter (unlike Webb) He will help Obama in many key states (PA NC VA WV) a few more. Oddley enough I dont know if you guys follow the Intrade markets or not but the last Couple of days Heavy money has been pileing up On Clark as the VP pick. I think maybe someone on the inside of Obamas Camp may be using privliged info to make a quick buck. I watch intrade prediction markets close and Wes Clark has went up almost 4 points on no major news being put out. while all other candidates slip. He has thousands of orders in for Clark shares. I think this is a good indication of some inside info. I think Clark will be our man. The is also an article about Clark being the best pick for VP at www.TheObamaPlan.com "

rostevenson wrote on Jun 25, 2008 11:03 AM:

" If I can't have Edwards as President, I would love to have him as VP instead. But for Obama's particular situation, there are probably better choices. I agree that Wesley Clark would be a HUGE asset to Obama's campaign. But I think more attention should be paid to Ted Strickland, governor of Ohio.
The election has gone to whoever carried Ohio for at least the last thousand years, and it's always down to the wire on which way Ohio swings (or, as in 2004, down to who's counting the votes.) Putting Strickland on the ticket could be all the nudge that Ohio needs to bring its electoral votes Obama's way. "
