25˚ Brix
replaces Brix
25º Brix is a virtually new restaurant replacing venerable Brix at the same location.
Restaurateur/designer David Gingrass and his team have broken what was once a cold large expanse into a number of comfortable and intimate spaces.
They’ve turned all the banquettes to face the mountain view, and added new bar seating to replace the sofas.
Chef Carlos Cañada has banished the Asian fusion food Brix long featured, and the food is now solidly farm-to-table cuisine rooted in southern France and northern Italy.
The restaurant has always maintained gardens but is taking that to a new level with additional raised beds and orchards.
25º Brix is at 7737 St. Helena Highway just north of Yountville. It serves lunch, dinner and brunch on weekends.

Taqueria Rosita expanding
One apparent beneficiary of Chef’s Market is the popular Mexican eatery Taqueria Rosita. It is expanding.
It’s taken over the space next door to offer more space for diners looking for authentic, reasonably priced food.
Taqueria La Playita closed
On the other hand, popular Taqueria La Playita at Old Sonoma Road and Jefferson is closed. No information other than a sign, “Closed until further Notice.”
Oxbow Public Market snares new tenant
Oxbow Public Market’s newest catch is Kara’s Cupcakes from San Francisco.
This is the bakery’s third retail shop and first shop outside of San Francisco.
The owner and executive pastry chef is Kara Lind.
Kara’s Cupcakes will likely open this winter.
Chefs’ Market
The last two weeks have been perfect for the Chefs’ Market, and the crowds of mellow people were clearly having a great time enjoying the expanded chefs’ demonstrations and music as well as food and wine from mostly local vendors.
A number of local restaurant owners tell me business Thursday has picked up, and it’s fine Friday, too.
New manager and Boon Fly chef at Carneros Inn
Phillip Kendall is the new general manager at The Carneros Inn.
Hel was the general manager at Calistoga Ranch.
Also, Portland, Ore. native Camille Jackson is the new chef de cuisine at the Boon Fly Café at the Carneros Inn.
