Federal wine regulators have rejected a request to designate east Napa as the Tulocay viticultural area, saying the name does not have enough general recognition or support among local vintners.

Fire burning in east Napa hills

More than 1,000 acres have burned in a fire near Wild Horse Valley Road in the east Napa hills. CalFire is responding to the fire, which is currently straddling the Napa / Solano county border. Voluntary evacuations are in effect for the Solano County side.

Man arrested for assault

A Napa man was arrested Friday evening on supicion of assault with a deadly weapon on the 1800 block of Central Avenue, police reported Saturday. Arturo Cortez, 37, is suspected of brandishing a rifle at the victim.

Napa, Solano hills aglow with wind-fed flames

A wildfire broke off of Wild Horse Valley Road Saturday, spewing white and gray columns of smoke visible from downtown Napa. By nighttime, orange flames were visible along the ridge line east of Napa.
