Free bus rides June 19

By Register Staff

Riding the VINE and local community shuttles will be free Thursday ,June 19 as part of a Bay Area “spare the air” program.

Transit will be free on Napa’s VINE, including Route 10 to Vallejo and Calistoga, and the shuttles in American Canyon, St. Helena and Yountville as a way of encouraging people to give up their cars long term.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District are funding free transit as part of a program to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution.

Each gallon of gas saved by taking transit eliminates 20 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, the sponsors said.

BART and the Vallejo Baylink ferries will only be free until noon Thursday.
