1:15 p.m.A three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Napa County sent two men to the hospital with major injuries, the CHP said.

The accident happened around 2:45 p.m. on Highway 29 near Yount Mill Road, north of Yountville.
George Ortiz, 54, of Rutherford was driving a 1996 Chevy northbound on the highway, when the vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane, CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.

David Wiltfang, 37, of Illinois was traveling southbound in a 2006 Eclipse. Ortiz’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of the Eclipse, causing it to spin. Ortiz continued to drive in the southbound lane and plowed head on into a southbound motorcycle driven by Perry Brace, 49, of Napa, Paulson said.
Brace and Wiltfang suffered broken bones and major injuries, he said. Ortiz complained of pain. All three were taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, Paulson said.

" alcohol wasnt a factor but how about a license and insurance? "

" A license and insurance caused the accident? Hmm I hope you don't drive with that kind of logic. "

" Isn't there a middle turn lane up there -- a "suicide" lane? Doesn't that provide an extra 8-10 feet of buffer to keep people from drifting all the way across the road? There has to be more to this -- some contributing factor... "

" Traveling at 50 mph. it only takes a second (about the time it takes to sneeze) of looking away from the road to cross the line(s) into oncoming traffic. Think about it.
This ACCIDENT is tragic...we should be thinking about the people that were hurt......you should be ashamed of yourselves. "
