1:30 p.m.A 48-year-old man died Friday afternoon when his pickup crashed on Knoxville Road near the Lake County line, north of Lake Berryessa.

James Curtis Powell of Hidden Valley Lake was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Powell was driving his 1996 Ford Ranger pickup on Knoxville Road about 3 p.m. when the crash occurred.

“He veered left when he went into a right curb,” said CHP Officer Jaret Paulson.
The pickup slammed into a concrete bridge wall, tumbled down a 20-foot embankment and overturned, Paulson said.

" The Lake County line is 45 minutes away from Lake Berryessa. Who at the Register is writing these headlines? And why? "

" 45 minutes? On foot or on Jackass? It's about, what, fifteen miles more or less from the northern tip of Berryessa to Lake County? I hate driving behind drivers that do fifteen miles in 45 minutes! "

" It's about 16 miles from the north of Lake Berryessa to the Lake County border on Berryessa-Knoxville Road. The hills, curves and creek crossings on this narrow road do slow traffic down quite a bit. It usually takes me more than a half hour to reach the Lake County border from the north of Lake Berryessa. At least this time they didn't say it happened AT Lake Berryessa (sigh). Say! Did anyone go to the 27th Annual Davis Aquatic Masters Swim at Lake Berryessa this weekend? Hundreds of people swimming out around Goat Island and back. Its sad there was no news story on that. "

" My condolences to the Powell family. Shame on you to find fault with time and distance, a man's life has been lost. Find fault with items that matter. "
