Is there a Web site where one can ask questions regarding recycling, garbage and/or yard waste? For example, once I’ve finished reading “Glad You Asked,” is it better to put the newspaper in a paper grocery bag with all the other to-be-recycled-papers or just chuck it loose into the recycling bin to mix with the cans, bottles and other papers?

Are you trying to tell me that you, dear reader, do not oh-so-lovingly archive my masterpieces? Considering that my own mother doesn’t either, I guess I’ll let that slide.
To answer your question, there is in fact a Web site that you can go to to answer your inquiries on how to disown my column, er, dispose of, all your recyclables. You can go to www.naparecycling.com, the Web site for Napa Recycling and Waste Services. There you will find a plethora of information on everything from a simple chart on single-stream recycling that clearly outlines what types of glass, plastic, metal and paper can be thrown into the bin, to what is called The Recycle Guide, which goes into even more detail on items ranging from: what to do with your dead batteries; recycling your car; electronic waste disposal (computer equipment, televisions, etc.); oil recycling; tire disposal and more. There are also instructions on how to properly fill up your waste bins, lists of acceptable items and even procedures on recycling set-up for special events.

The site also provides locations and contact information for recycling of those what-the-heck-do-I-do-with-these items, such as those Styrofoam packing “peanuts” featured in a “Glad You Asked” column of yore. The Web site is simple, user-friendly, and for those who care, has pretty pictures.
Remember: if you print out any of those handy charts (or anything else for that matter) for easy reference, please use your print preview feature and use only what you need. Happy surfing!
