Napa Sheriff’s off to good start

The Napa Sheriff’s/Matt Salsman Insurance Joe DiMaggio Baseball League team is off to a very good start, having won four in a row.
Napa Sheriff’s/Matt Salsman beat Raneri & Long/Mark Coleman Insurance May 28 at Justin-Siena High School, 8-3. Mitch Perez pitched five innings for Sheriff’s for the win, giving up two runs and striking out seven. Shortstop Paul Sciacca went 3-for-4 with a double while third baseman Chad Albrecht hit a three-run home run. Designated hitter Adam Timmons went 2-for-4, first baseman Robbie Parness went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double, and left fielder Thomas Finch went 2-for-3.
For Raneri & Long/Mark Coleman Insurance, left fielder Jake Dunkle hit a two-run homer.
Napa Sheriff’s continued their winning ways May 31 at the Veterans Home of California’s Cleve Borman Field in Yountville, beating the Middletown Rattlers, 7-4. Chad Albrecht pitched a complete game, striking out six and giving up four runs. Caleb Mendoza went 3-for-4 with a double, Nelson Saldivar with 1-for-3 with a double, Timmons went 2-for-4 and third baseman Louis Alvarez went 2-for-4.
Napa Sheriff’s/Matt Salsman Insurance swept a doubleheader from the host Middletown Rattlers on Sunday, winning 5-0 and 10-8
In the first game, Sciacca pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out 15 batters in his seven innings on the mound. Aiding his own cause, Sciacca went deep for a two-run home run in the third inning. Third baseman Louis Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a double and left fielder Thomas Finch went 2-for-4.
In the second game of the day, the bats came alive. Sheriff’s had 11 hits to Middletown’s nine. Perez lasted six innings, giving up eight runs while striking out four. Jason Hagan got the save, pitching the seventh inning with two strikeouts. Offensively, Hagan, playing center field, went 4-for-5, including a leadoff triple in the first. Ryan Hallet, playing second base, went 1-for-4 with a double, first baseman Robbie Parness went 2-for-5 with a double, left fielder Thomas Finch went 1-for-2 with a double, and catcher Steve Hartley went 1-for-4 with a double.

Caroline DeVincenzi and Rachelle Whitehead were named as most valuable players of the Justin-Siena softball team.
Lauren Mallin (offensive award), Hailey Breakwell (defensive award), and Adri Schwartz (pitching award) were also honored.
The CIF North Coast Section presented a scholastic award to the Braves, as their 3.54 cumulative grade-point average is the highest among 171 schools in the section.
