Napa Valley Swim Team starts long-course season

The Napa Valley Swim Team recently traveled to Santa Cruz to compete in its first long course swim meet of the season. There were over 430 swimmers and 39 teams who competed.
The NVST had many tremendous swims over the two-day meet, including 119 lifetime best swims. Fifteen swimmers earned 100 percent best times, a National Reportable Time, a NVST team record was broken, five Western Zone Cut times were achieved, five Pacific Reportable Times achieved, four Far Western times achieved, three “AAAA” times achieved, five “AAA” times achieved, nine Junior Olympic times achieved, eight “A” times, 12 “BB” times and 15 “B” times.
Of note was 10-year-old Megan Minor. Minor broke the NVST team record in the 50-meter backstroke, swimming a 36.12. The old team record was set by Presley Bard in 1998 where she swam a 37.26. Minor achieved 100 percent best times. Minor also achieved her first National Reportable Time in this event, achieved a Western Zone time and placed first overall.
Other notable achievements were Western Zone consideration times in the 50-meter freestyle (finishing first, and achieving a new “AAAA” time and PRT time), 100-meter backstroke (first, and achieving a new “AAAA” time and PRT time), and 50-meter butterfly (third, and achieving a new “AAA” and PRT time). Minor also swam the 100-meter freestyle where she achieved a new Far Western and “AAA” time and placed first, and she also swam the 50-meter breastroke where she achieved a new “A” and Junior Olympic time, finishing sixth. With the swims in the 50-meter backstroke and the 100-meter backstroke, Minor is ranked first overall in all of Pacific Swimming.
In the girls 8-and-under division, 7-year-old Karenna Meyer achieved 100 percent best times and new “A” times in the 100-meter freestyle and the 50-meter breastroke. Eight-year-old Quinn Jensen achieved 100 percent best times and a new “A” time in the 50-meter backstroke. Rebecca Reynolds, 8, achieved 100 percent best times and finished third in the 50-meter backstroke.
In the boys 8-and-under division, 7-year-old Robert Mitchell achieved 100 percent best times. William Fallini-Haas, 7, achieved 100 percent best times. Joey Douglas, 8, achieved 100 percent best times. Quinn McMichael, 8, achieved 100 percent best times and finished third in the 100-meter freestyle. Cayd Roberts, 8, achieved 100 percent best times and a new “A” time in the 50-meter breastroke where he also finished third.
In the girls 9-10 year old division, 10-year-old Rose Ballantine earned 100 percent best times. Ballantine achieved a Western Zone and “AAA” time in the 50-meter breastroke, where she also placed first. Ballantine achieved a new Far Western time and “AAA” time in the 50-meter freestyle (third place); a new “AA” and Junior Olympic time in the 100-meter backstroke (sixth); a new “A” and Junior Olympic time in the 100-meter freestyle (seventh); a new “A” and Junior Olympic time in the 50-meter backstroke (seventh) and a new “A” time in the 50-meter butterfly. Ten-year-old Madi Anderson earned 100 percent best times and a new “A” time and Junior Olympic time in the 50-meter backstroke. Ten-year-old Mia Facey earned 100 percent best times and a new “AA” and Far Western time in the 50-meter freestyle (finishing fifth) and a new “A” time and Junior Olympic time in the 100-meter freestyle. Facey also swam the 50-meter backstroke where she finished fifth. Ten-year-old Alissa Meyer achieved 100 percent best times. Nathalie Brewster, 9, earned 100 percent best times and a new “BB” time in the 100-meter backstroke. Madison Perna, 9, achieved 100 percent best times and a new “BB” time in her 100-meter backstroke. Belle Calforda, 9, achieved 100 best times and a new “BB” time in the 50-meter freestyle. Isabella Corley, 9, achieved 100 percent best times. Kathleen Schafle, 9, achieved 100 percent best times. Swimming in her first swim meet was Olivia Ha-Hoang, 9.
In the boys 9-10 year old division, Noah Douglas, 10, achieved 100 percent best times and new “BB” times in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 50-meter backstroke and the 100-meter backstroke. Andrei Astafyev, 10, achieved 100 percent best times. Swimming in his first meet was Clark Williamson, 10.
In the girls 11-12 division, Elise Roberts, 12, achieved five best times. She achieved a new “AAA” and Far Western time in the 50-meter freestyle (finishing second) and the 50-meter butterfly (fourth). Roberts also achieved a new “AA” and Junior Olympic time in the 100-meter butterfly (third) and a new “A” and Junior Olympic time in the 50-meter backstroke (fourth). Roberts also finished first overall in the 200-meter breastroke and third in the 200-meter freestyle. Ashley Amundson, 12, earned 100 percent best times and swam to a new “BB” time in the 50-meter freestyle and a new “B” time in the 200-meter freestyle. Chloe King, 12, achieved 100 percent best times. Leanne Woods, 12, achieved 100 percent best times and a new “B” time in the 200-meter freestyle. Stephanie Lockett, 12, achieved 100 percent best times. Joanna Haas, 11, achieved 100 percent best times and a new “BB” time in the 50-meter freestyle. Madeline Cline, 11, swam 100 percent best times. Megan Perna, 11, achieved 100 percent best times and a new “BB” time in the 50-meter butterfly. Leigh Jensen, 11, achieved four best times. Emily Stephens, 11, earned 100 percent best times. Alex Swanson, 11, earned 100 percent best times. Elizabeth Schafle, 11, achieved 100 percent best times.
In the boys 11-12 year old division, Eric Boessenecker, 12, earned 100 percent best times. He achieved a new “AA” time and a Junior Olympic time in the 50-meter freestyle (finishing fourth); a new “A” time in the 200-meter freestyle (seventh); a new “BB” time in the 50-meter backstroke (sixth) and 50-meter butterfly (seventh); and a new “B” time in the 100-meter butterfly. Jack Williamson, 11, achieved 100 percent best times. Daniel Richardson, 11, achieved three best times.
In the girls 13-14 year old division, 13-year-old Chloe Hubbard achieved 100 percent best times and finished seventh in the 100-meter breastroke and 100-meter butterfly and eighth in the 200-meter backstroke and the 200-meter breastroke. Ximena Mendieta, 13, achieved 100 percent best times and placed fourth in the 100-meter butterfly, sixth in the 200-meter backstroke, seventh in the 100-meter freestyle and eighth in the 100-meter backstroke. Erica Facey, 13, achieved three best times. Ghitta Ferrara, 13, achieved two best times.
In the boys 13-14 year old division, Hayden Corley, 13, achieved four best times. Nick Meyer, 13, achieved two best times. Jake Kennedy, 14, achieved 100 percent best times and a new “BB” time in the 100-meter freestyle and a new “B” time in the 200-meter breastroke.
The NVST’s annual home meet is June 27-29 at Napa Valley College.
