Seventeen Napa County businesses that have demonstrated their commitment to environmental responsibility and green business practices were honored by the Napa County Board of Supervisors at its regular meeting on May 20.

Board chair Brad Wagenknecht presented proclamations to those businesses that have certification as a “green business” under the standards developed by the county, in conjunction with the Association of Bay Area Governments.

These businesses have not only achieved regulatory  compliance, but have gone above and beyond in the areas of waste management, energy and water use reduction and pollution prevention.

The businesses recognized include: Brauning Appraisals, Cakebread Winery, Chateau Boswell Winery, Charter Oak Bank, Cuvaison Winery (Calistoga), Eco-Organize, Edwards Engineering, Fat Mouth News, Green Method Construction, Huffman Communications, J.R. & Sons Cleaning Services and Supplies, Mechanics Bank, Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency, Napa River Adventures, Napa Valley Vintners, NewLevel Group and Wine and Dine Events Group.

The program is jointly managed by Napa County’s Department of Environmental Management and the Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency.

District 2 Supervisor Mark Luce, who has long championed the program, said that, “This voluntary program is designed to help small- and  medium-sized businesses achieve their environmental goals and go beyond regulatory compliance, and  to recognize them for their efforts. More than 1,000 businesses have been certified in the Bay Area, and Napa County is now a significant contributor to that number.”

There is no cost to enroll in the program, and information about certification can be obtained by  contacting either Steve Lederer at DEM or Danielle Sinclair at NCTPA.
